DIRECTIONS:

First cut out the shapes for your monsters, flowers, plants and trees. If you have stencils or want to make stencils go ahead! You can use them for future projects. After getting your pieces cut out figure out what pieces you want to glue to which. You can either glue everything on to a paper or box or make everything loose to rearrange over and over again.  Then begin gluing everything together.  You can even tie things together if you have ribbons lying around.  You can sew buttons and other odds and ends to them.  You can use anything you find lying around the house.  You don’t even have to use foam to make your monsters, use news papers or magazines, use cotton balls if you don’t have pom-poms, what ever you want to decorate.  Use your imagination!!!

 
The 4th of July is almost here! Celebrate it with some homemade noise makers! You can make your own 4th of July Maraca’s from thing that are around your house!

MATERIALS:

• at least 2 plastic bottles (water, juice, yogurt etc.)

• Gorilla Glue

• Kids Classic Recycled Scissors

• rubber bands

• Biodegradable Water Balloons

• rice uncooked or dried beans or even dry lentils

• something to use as a handle (straw, popsicle stick, old pen or pencil)

•decorative elements such as beads, stickers, markers, buttons, glitter, paint or anything lying around the house like broken jewelry or hair accessories.

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

• Make a hole at the bottom of the bottle, using the scissors or a knife (this is a job for the adults).

• Pour glue on the hole.

• Put the handle in the hole. Give it a moment to make sure the handle stays put.

• Fill up the bottles half way with the rice, beans or lentils.

• Cover the top of the container with the balloon.

• Use the rubber bands to to tie the bottom of the balloon to the handle of the maraca.

• Get to decorating! Make them as fun as you want! Use anything you find from around the house. You can even use things you find outside like leaves, sticks, acorn shells!

• Let them dry so none of the decorations fall off or get smudged.

• After they have dried, PLAY WITH THEM!

I have been dabbling into home remedies and baths due to some books I have been reading and since those have been going so well I have finally decided to take a shot at making my own cosmetics. It is a great way to save money. I can create cosmetics to suit me personally and have them do the things I need specific to my body. I am elated at my new adventure. I know a little about what different herbs, fruits and veggies do but clearly I need some assistance so I don’t make a science experiment out of my skin and hair. Seeing that this oil spill tragedy is such big news maybe now is a good time to show your children or students the importance of our oceans. This is an easy and inexpensive craft that is alot of fun to do.

I personally like octopus’ and I also have plenty of toilet paper/paper towel tubes around the house. You can also use wrapping paper tubes or anything else in that shape that you have lying around the house.

MATERIALS:

Feel free to get creative and use any other odds and ends you have lying around the house to decorate your octopus. You can even take an old shoe box or any small box and make a complete ocean home for your sea friends! Perfect for summer!

STEPS TO FOLLOW:

Step 1: Stuff the inside of the tube about half of the way through. with stuffing forming the head of the octopus.
Step 2: Paint the entire paper tube white.
Step 3: After the white dries paint your octopus any color you want.
Step 4: Wait until paint dries.
Step 5: Make small cuts on the lower portion of the paper tube making 8 legs.
Step 6: Use the Marker to curl up the legs by rolling them up.
Step 7: Add eyes and other decorations you want.
Step 8: Draw, paint or glue on mouth.
Step 9: Let your octopus sit and dry for a while to make sure all decorations and paint have dried.
Step 10: Play with or show off your new friend.

The school year is coming to a close. Summer vacation is coming soon, why not give your children’s teacher a big thank you! It is important to appreciate teachers who are good at their jobs. This is an excellent idea for the beginning of the year and even before long vacations. Also by using odds and ends around the home you can be green about it!!

* 1 – Piece of white cardstock
* shaped or regular hole-punch
* colored chalk, markers, or crayons
* Glue either hot or regular.
* Paints either water color or any kind of paint around the home

Instructions:

1. You can either print or write out the messages you want to say to your teacher.
2. Color the card using chalk, makers, paints, or crayons.
3. Glue your favorite odds and ends to the inside and outside of the card to make it original and special! Show your teacher the special thanks for what you have learned that year.
4. Let the card dry over night to make sure everything will stay and last on the way to school.
5. Give the teacher your thank you card! A little bit goes a long way.

Instructions
Heat the oven to 250°.

Fill each mold with crayon pieces and bake until the crayons melt, about 10 to 15 minutes. Tip: Place a sheet pan under the crayons to catch any drips.

Once they’re cool, remove the hearts from the molds and smooth any rough edges by rubbing them on a piece of scrap paper.

Use small pieces of foam tape to stick each heart to a 3-inch circle cut from card stock .

Craft foam or card stock
Faux fur fabric (optional)
Shoe laces or fabric (lying around the house)
White glue or glitter glue pens
Small hole punch
Pipe cleaner
Faux jewels, buttons, craft foam shapes, glitter, broken pins or hair clips, sequins,
Marker or pen (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut a heart shape from craft foam or card stock. If you use fabric, first glue a small piece of the fabric to foam or card stock, allow the glue to dry, then cut out the heart shape.

2. Unless you’re working with foam use a small hole punch to make 2 holes, centered, in the heart. Cut a 4-inch length of pipe cleaner (have your parents help). Bend it in half and push the ends through the holes from front to back as shown.

3. Place the ring on your child’s finger to measure the size. Twist the pipe cleaner ends together until the ring fits comfortably. Remove the ring and trim and tuck any excess pipe cleaner (have your parents help).

4. Glue on faux jewels, buttons, craft foam shapes, or other items for decoration. Allow the glue to dry. Use a marker or pen to write a few words on the back of the ring, if you like.
