DIY Organic Body Butter

DIY Body Butter

DIY Body Butter

I have just run out of body butter. This annoys me to no end and lately I have been annoyed at the prices of good quality body butters as well. I like my skin to be smoothed and moisturized just like everyone else but I don’t appreciate paying an arm and a leg for good ingredients. I am not sure why it didn’t occur to me to make my own as I have made plenty of other beauty products. I have almost all of these items at home with the exception of the raw shea butter. I have looked at a bunch of recipes for body butter so below is a compilation of a few I liked best. If you make your own you can customize the scents and as you get better at it you can add other ingredients specific to your skin type. A little goes a long way with making your own so even if the ingredients may be a little costly you can make much more than what you would purchase at a store.

Ingredients:
1 cup Organic Raw Shea Butter
½ cup Organic coconut oil
½ cup Organic almond oil
Several drops essential oils like these Organic Pure Essential Oils Set (a few drops goes a long way so be careful) *Not all essential oils are skin friendly or child friendly. Please do your research before adding.
Glass or plastic jar or canister to put the butter in.

Instructions:
1. Melt shea butter and coconut oil in the top of a double boiler.
2. Remove from heat and let cool for 30 minutes.
3. Stir in almond oil and essential oils of your choosing.
4. Place oil mixture in freezer or outside to chill for 20 minutes.
5. Whip until the mixture has a buttery looking consistency.
6. Put in canister or jar.

Tips:
You can use what ever oils you prefer if you have allergies or preferences, just make sure you keep the ratio recipe ratio is 75% solid to 25% liquid.
The chilling step is the most important. If you don’t let the mixture cool properly, your butter won’t whip correctly or stay whipped. About 20 minutes in the freezer for this recipe works best. Make sure you scrape down the sides before mixing.

Deep Rosemary and Mint Organic Bath Soak

Deep Rosemary and Mint Organic Bath Soak

Deep Rosemary and Mint Organic Bath Soak

I have been in need of a long bath for quite a while.  Baths are one of my most fave things ever but I never have the time to take a bath and relax the way I really want to.  That being said I am sure there are some of you out there that have that same issue.  I figured while I was dreaming about the most relaxing fabulous bath I have ever wanted to take I would showcase a product that I am also dreaming of with my bath.  The Deep Rosemary and Mint Organic Bath Soak would make my bath all it could ever be.   Both rosemary and mint help relax and revitalize the senses after a long stressful day.  Mint is used in many bath products to open up the senses and help you breathe easier.   Some benefits of rosemary have been said to be that it is a mood elevator, anti-inflammatory, improves memory, migraine relief, pain reliever, immune booster, aids in anti-aging, helps with circulation besides a large list of other things.  Mint is known for helping with digestion, it has been suggested that mint is an anti-cancer herb, antioxidant, cools, treats acne, helps cleanse the blood, relieves congestion and nasal issues, helps relax and soothe the skin.

New Makeup Necessity

This summer season has been severely hurting my allergies. My whole body is itching especially my face. My eyes have swollen and wearing any make up has become next to impossible. This makes me a little nuts because if I have some where to go I can spruce myself up. I have had to throw out all of my make up because it is making my eyes/face swell up more than ever before. I am not sure if this is the same for any of you greenies out there but since I am in search of new products I figured I would help you out and show you some of the stuff I picked.  I’m in desperate need of hypoallergenic/organic make up STAT. I figured for now I could just get the minor essentials to see how my face reacts and then go from there.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eye Shadow

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eye Shadow

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eye Shadow I love these colors! This brand isn’t organic but it is hypoallergenic. Most of the other organic/green brands were insanely expensive for 1 color. I don’t want to have to go the ungreen route but to pay over $20 per eyeshadow color is a bit much for me. I am sure I am not the only one. This particular brand offers a few different color combinations like this that are way pretty.

Juice Beauty Glowing Cheek Color

Juice Beauty Glowing Cheek Color

Juice Beauty Glowing Cheek Coloris priced at $16.00 which is a bit pricey for blush but other organic/hypoallergenic blushes out there cost between $20-$30 so this is a great deal. Plus Juice Beauty is a trusted green cosmetic company.  These are the only 2 colors  I have found so far but they do offer bronzers as well.  I think either color could work for multiple skin tones.

Logona Eyeliner Pencil

Logona Eyeliner Pencil

Logona Eyeliner Pencil for $10.50 is one of the least expensive eye liners I have found that are eco-friendly and won’t make my eyes blow up. The Logona pencil comes in 6 different colors so you won’t have a difficult time matching to your outfits.  I personally prefer the liquid eyeliner pens but I haven’t found a green one yet so I suppose I am going back to pencils.

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Mascara

Physicians Formula Organic Wear Jumbo Mascara

Physicians FormulaOrganic Wear Jumbo Mascara is only $9.99 which maybe a little more than some store brand mascaras but not a bad price for organic and hypoallergenic cosmetics at all. I kind of really love the packaging as well. It’s super cute.  Mascara is one of my staples.  I can get it on quickly and I often wear just that and some blush and I am out the door.  I am excited about this one!.

What Is Gluten-Free?

I know you have heard a lot about gluten-free and may not know exactly what it is so I have decided to define it for you as well as show you some products that look delish and are gluten free to boot! Maybe you will decide to rid yourself of gluten as well.
I have tried many a gluten free product some good, some awful, and some great. It really is a taste preference. I am sure if you are strict about your gluten you would get used to even the worst tasting of product. Here is Wikipedia’s definition of gluten-free: A gluten-free diet is a diet that excludes foods containing gluten. Gluten is a protein found in wheat (including kamut and spelt), barley, rye, malts and triticale. It is used as a food additive in the form of a flavoring, stabilizing or thickening agent, often as “dextrin”. A gluten-free diet is the only medically accepted treatment for celiac disease, the related condition dermatitis herpetiformis, and wheat allergy.

I went on a little search for some yummy looking gluten-free items so here they are:

DIY Bath Fizzies

DIY Bath Fizzies

I love taking baths and relaxing! Even more I love to make the elements that make my bath so relaxing. I know most people probably wouldn’t enjoy it because it is time consuming but there is nothing better than being able to customize the product to your specific liking. You also know what is going into the product and if it is really safe or not. If you are like me and enjoy making your own beauty products here is how you can make your own DIY Organic Bath Fizzies:

Ingredients:
•1/2 cup citric acid
•1 cup organic baking soda
•3/4 cup organiccornstarch
•1/4 cup organic cane sugar
•About 6 drops organic food coloring
•10 to 15 drops organic essential oil(s
•Spray bottle
•Silicone ice-cube tray (any fun shape you have)
•Storage jar (preferable something recycled you can always decorate it anyway you want)

Directions:
1.Stir together citric acid, baking soda, and cornstarch in a measuring cup.
2.Pass mixture through a fine sieve or a flour sifter into a mixing bowl.
3.Stir in sugar.
4.Fill spray bottle with water, and add food coloring.
5.Spritz mixture lightly (it should be damp and not wet enough to start fizzing) until you can pack mixture with your hands.
6.Add oil using a dropper, 1 drop at a time, until strength of scent is to your liking.
7. Use a metal spoon or your hands to mix ingredients until color is even throughout (mixture may begin to dry out if this happens, spritz until packable again).
8.Spoon into ice-cube tray & pressing firmly.
9. Let dry at room temperature overnight.
10. Pop out of tray gently and transfer to decorative jars.

**As usual you can add your own fun to this by using edible glitter, eco-paint to decorate the fizzies after they have dried! Be creative. It’s fun!

Peppermint Pimple Zapper

Peppermint Pimple Zapper

Peppermint Pimple Zapper

I love this!!! I used to keep a vial of tea tree oil with me but this smells soo much nicer! The weather is changing and warmer weather is upon us. This means you may be needing more moisturizer especially if your skin is sensitive to the sun. This is a quick fix for anyone who suffers from pop up pimples. For me every time I am about to get one it looks like I have just gotten bitten by a bug and then a few hours later you can see a pimple. The peppermint and lavender can help soothe the skin while getting rid of the blemish. Like many of the harsh chemicals used in other skin care products the Peppermint Pimple Zapper by Karen’s Botanicals is focused more on soothing the skin than irritating it.  Your face will smell better and feel better after using this organic treatment. Have you ever tried the Peppermint Pimple Zapper or any of Karen’s Botanical products?
