Persephone

Persephone

I realized the other day I talk about my pets but I have never really described them or their stories before. I do have plenty of them and they all have such credible personalities I think they could all use their own separate posts!
My latest addition to my zoo brood is Persephone. She is the sister of Panda (my second to last addition but I’ll go into more detail about him in another post.) Persephone is a tiny tiny grey and white kitty! She has sporadic longer white hairs that stick out of her coat, just like Panda and kind of reminds me of Skeksis, if you don’t know what this is click here please, but her fur is soft and snuggly just like she is but on her own terms.
I wasn’t supposed to even have Persephone or even another kitten, or even a kitten at all but as luck would have it one of my fave friend’s kitties had kittens.  I went with this “friend” to go feed her kittens and I feel in love with Persephone immediately but as I would learn she was off in her own world and didn’t that anyone was in the room with her. Her brother had different ideas however and I wound up taking him home instead.  A few weekends later I was kitten sitting for that same “friend” and decided to take Persephone with me just for funzies.  At first I wasn’t sure I even wanted her.  She wasn’t very happy to be at my zoo and she didn’t even care I was alive. She was immediately off on her own investigating the place. After 5 minutes of her being at my house she managed to scratch me in the face and I was convinced I would be bringing her back to my “friends” ASAP.
Then I saw her and her brother Panda playing and it was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Two tiny kitties rolling around on the floor, chasing each other, running into things and getting into mischief together! I loved it! That isn’t what made me love Sephie (my name for her) either. What made me love her is her independence. She is fearless. In the first 5 minutes after scratching me in the face she was off to climbing up some large furniture that her brother who I had had for 2 weeks didn’t even attempt to try to get to. She was jumping of things and trying to jump onto things much higher and bigger than I thought she should be but that was not going to stop little Seph. I would sit and watch her go off on her own and you would notice after a little bit that Panda would follow her and let her test stuff out first before he tried it. By the end of the weekend it was decided that I had to keep her. While my big panther Rupert still Sephie and Panda up a bit they both love my Skye (the long pooch in what is now a sea of kitties) she was clearly one of us!
Now that we all have our routines down Sephie seems to be the trailblazer who wants to hang with the big kids, Skye and Rue, but can still get rough and tumble with her brother and be silly. Then when I am not paying attention she sneaks up to me and gets super

lovie

” target=”_blank”>lovie and snuggly. I didn’t expect it the first few times I saw it but relished in it. Now when she wants some alone time she either hides (on two separate occasions I thought I lost her in my house or she got out because she is that good at “alone time”) or she snuggles up on me somewhere I cannot see, because she is the tiniest little kitty ever, and just relaxes. All I can do is pick her up and smooch her a million times even when she miss behaves because I just cannot help myself. Her fearlessness is something I completely admire and adore. She is even a protector in times and her size seems to make no difference to her. I know that one day she will grow up into a big kitty but for now I am enjoying how mini she is and I just hope that she stays mini for as long as possible!!
I hope maybe I can learn from her and get some added courage and fearlessness in my life. Maybe I shouldn’t be afraid to take those big leaps because the worst that can happen I suppose is I fall. I may not be a cat and land on my feet but like Sephie I should pick myself back up and try all over again until I don’t fall!

Pet Naturals of Vermont Daily Best Vitamins

Pet Naturals Daily Best Vitamin

Pet Naturals Daily Best Vitamin

My little pooch is getting up there in dog years and I recently decided that perhaps vitamins are a good idea to safeguard my baby.   It is just as important for our pets to get their nutrition as it is ourselves.  Pets, just like humans, need help to get much needed nutriants as they get older.  My pooch isn’t necessarily deficient in anything particular so I wanted to find a multivitamin for her.  I have heard good things about Pet Naturals products from some of my pet owning friends and decided to try their Daily Best Vitamin.  My pup has only just had her first vitamin today, I will keep you posted.

Product Description: Daily Best is a balanced, comprehensive, high potency multivitamin/mineral formula to maintain optimal health in dogs. Happy Tails Spa Ear Clear

Happy Tails Spa Ear Clear

Happy Tails Spa Ear Clear

With all of the animals I have at my house the one thing I have to say I don’t think I do enough is clean all of their ears. When the new kitten, Rupert, arrived at our house after giving him a thorough bath I had to clean his ears which were gross. The doctor later gave me meds for his ears to get rid of the mites and keep his ears clean but it made me think about the other pets too. When I give the dogs baths I don’t always clean their ears but I used to clean the dogs ears all of the time, now I have been a little lazy. Since the arrival of Rupert I have been making sure all of the pets get regular ear cleanings. The medicated cleaner from the vet can only last for so long so I wanted to find a cleaner that I could use and trust for the pets down the line. A pets ears are very delicate and sensitive so you can’t just use any product. Pets can have all types of skin allergies and ear issues are breed specific in certain kinds of pets. Happy Tails Spa Ear Clear has natural ingredients to help relieve your pet from swelling, pain, and wax build up while offering anti-fungal oils to keep the ears clear and healthy. Some of the ingredients in Ear Clearare olive oil for soothing the ear as well as loosening wax, lavender oil which has a soothing scent along with anti-itch and fungal properties, calendula oil aids in wound healing and is antimicrobial, arnica flower which increases circulation to help heal and keep extra fluid from building up, as well as a few other helpful ingredients.

Some other great facts about Happy Tails Spa Ear Clear clear are the bottles are made from recycled post consumer resin, their labels are made from FiberStone a paperless natural material that doesn’t use trees, all products are PETA certified cruelty free and made here in the USA. You know I always love that!
Have you tried any Happy Tails Spa products? I have written about Happy Tails Spa before because of their other great products and their super cute advertisements. Let me know how you feel about Happy Tails Spa items and if you have tried Ear Clear, I would love to know.

Over the holidays I usually purchase my friends and families pets safe and organic treats for the holidays but it never really occurred to me to make them myself. I know it is a little more time consuming but with all of the other holiday backing going on why not right? I found this quick and simple cat treat recipe that any cat would love.

Supplies:
cookie sheet
½ cup organic whole wheat flour
½ cup non-fat, organic powdered milk
½ cup cooked and chopped organic chicken
1 tbs. organic vegetable oil
1 organic egg, beaten
¼ cup water
1 tbs. chopped, fresh organic catnip

1. Mix together the powdered milk, flour and catnip in a bowl.
2. Add the egg, organic chicken, vegetable oil and water and mix until dough becomes sticky.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
4. Grease the cookie sheet to make sure the treats don’t stick.
5. Form treats in to any shape or size you like. You can even use cookie cutters if you have ones small enough.
6. Place on cookie sheets to bake for 10 minutes.
7. Take out of oven and flip treats to cook for another 10 minutes so they cook evenly on both sides.
8. Remove treats from the oven and let cool before giving them to your kitty.

Foster & Rescue For the Holiday’s

Animal Foster & Rescue

Animal Foster & Rescue

I know many of you have probably noticed my focusing on helping rescue animals lately. I have recently started working with some people who really focus on trying to keep innocent animals from getting euthanized due to lack of space in shelters and at ACC’s (Animal Care & Control). This is an issue that has always been close to my heart as both of my pooches are rescues one from NYCACC. It is no question to me that these animals need saving. It breaks my heart when I see things like Gone But Not Forgotten folders with images of hundreds of dogs that have been put to sleep for no reason other than there is no where else to put them.
The holiday’s are coming up and I ask that maybe you can find it in your heart to help those that cannot help themselves. Even if you cannot adopt a pet you can foster and help find them a good home! This is the season of giving sooo instead of spending money on presents spend your time and love on a pet that would other wise probably be put to sleep. Even if you have other pets or are apprehensive you can find a pet best suited to you.
If you can or want to adopt think of all of the benefits adoption has. You don’t spend thousands of dollars on a 3lb pooch that was bred with its own parents who will probably only last a few years because of the medical issues inbreeding causes in animals. If you rescue you give a pet a chance to have a safe and loving home which all animals deserve. You will feel better about yourself and your decision everyday you look in to your rescues eyes. I promise you they appreciate it and will love you just as much for keeping them safe.
I thank my pooches everyday for finding me and saving me because without them and the experiences they having given me I would definitely be without. I urge all of you who read my blog or who just plain love animals to seriously consider fostering or adopting this season. You won’t regret it!
If you are interested and are in the NY area click here and bring home your new best friend today!! If you aren’t in the area you can google your local ACC and find out their requirements.
If you have rescued your pet please tell us your story and we will post it on our blog so everyone gets a chance to feel the love!!

Today I finally opened the Gone but Not Forgottenalbum for dogs who didn’t get rescued in time on Facebook. I cannot tell you how much my heart hurts today after seeing soo many beautiful animals needlessly killed because they couldn’t be adopted or fostered. I have been trying to do my part and sharing these dogs stories and photos with as many people as I can in hopes of helping these poor dogs find a new home. This “cross-posting” definitely takes a toll especially when an animal you were trying to save is put in the Gone But Not Forgotten photo album.
Today I write this article to ask for two things:
1. Help “cross-posters” out! Share the photos and stories of these animals so we can keep them from being destroyed. Please either e-mail me or find me on Facebook and I will get you in touch with the right people. Please help us help these animals.
2. Please read and follow NO Kill NEWS so you can stay on top of the news on where animals might be able to go or new laws that can help us save these guys! Another way to help is by visiting the NO KILL NATION store and help support an amazing cause.
Rescuing animals is something so near and dear to me. All of my pets are rescues and I encourage everyone I come across who is searching for a pet to rescue one. You are doing your community and the animal such a service. Imagine someone just leaving you out on the streets by yourself and one day you get brought to a place where you know no one or what is going on only to be destroyed a short time later. Why would we treat any living thing that way? These animals can’t help themselves they need us to care. With all the wrong that goes on in this world on a daily basis something small like helping rescues find a forever home is something that is so right and will make you feel amazing. Please help these hardworking cross posters and please please donate to NO Kill NATION!

The FURminator

The FURminator

The FURminator

It’s that time of year where your fur baby is shedding to puff up for their winter coat. Personally my I have to vacuum and dust everyday to keep us from being over whelmed by fur from all 4 of our little lovies. The last time we took our pups to the local pet store they recommended The FURminator a million times to us. They even brushed out both of our babies to show us how well it worked.
I’m not going to lie that sucker literally got the hair off in no time flat and for whatever reason the pooches didn’t even put up their normal fight about being brushed. The groomer at the store even said you could use it on cats (of which we have 2) if we wanted. The little button on the top of the brush even removes the hair from the brush for you.
I am seriously in love with The FURminator. My house needs to be vacuum and dusted only 3 times a week now haha. If you haven’t tried The FURminator yet and you are being overwhelmed by your pets shedding I really do suggest it. The FURminator is a little pricey but to be honest it was completely worth it. If you prefer to take your pet to be groomed go ahead but apparently this is the very brush they are all using.
