Lost Our Home

Its been a brutal kitten season in Phoenix that seems to be never ending so more cats than ever need help but many people are out of town for the summer so it’s a double whammy. This makes our need for cat foster homes greater than ever and is leaving us no way to rescue the 70 plus cats/kittens on our intake wait list that desperately need us. If you or anyone you know in the Phx area is able to foster a cat or kitten PLEASE have them do a foster application asap. We can save their lives if we have a foster home a place them in. Here is the link to the foster application:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/embeddedform?key=rBzwCPX-7V4c68h7jppFr8Q

Also, adopting from us will save lives too since it opens up more foster space. If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting a cat/kitten, please have them visit our website and see all the cats we have posted for adoption. We have so many great cats with great personalities just waiting for their furever home. Here is that link:

We of course need more fosters for dogs too including a 9 month old yellow lab that needs a foster asap.

PLEASE SUPPORT US BY PASSING THIS ON TO OTHERS IN THE PHOENIX AREA TOO SO WE CAN SAVE THESE PETS. WE CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!!

Thank you,

Eco Art Pillows by Wabisabi Green

Wabisabi Green Eco Art Pillows

I love decorating my new home and as I repeatedly mention I am trying one purchase at a time to “green it up” any way I can. Lately I have been lamenting over the fact that my bedroom isn’t up to par. I have been dreading buying new sheets, blankets and pillows because of the small zoo of animals that think my bedroom is their palace. I decided to get over it and begin the fun of decorating. I wanted to go all out this time and get the little things I never really thought to purchase before. Decorative pillows were high on this list. That is where I found these EcoArt Pillows by Wabisabi Green. Besides being hand printed with water based inks, using sustainably harvested kapok fiber or ecofibers from recycled plastic bottles it is also MADE IN THE USA! I love finding eco-products made right here at home. Not enough products are made in the USA anymore for a number of reasons but when I find them I make sure to keep a list! Check out Wabisabi Green today and see what they have to decorate your home!

The Weather Makers

The Weather Makers: How Man Is Changing the Climate and What It Means for Life on Earth

Yesterday I was given a suggestion to read this book The Weather Makers by Tin Flannery yesterday on The Green Beagles Facebook page. I decided that it was a good idea to find the book and post it for everyone to read.

PRODUCT REVIEW:

An international best seller embraced and endorsed by policy makers, scientists, writers and energy industry executives from around the world, Tim Flannery’s The Weather Makers contributed in bringing the topic of global warming to national prominence. For the first time, a scientist provided an accessible and comprehensive account of the history, current status, and future impact of climate change, writing what has been acclaimed by reviewers everywhere as the definitive book on global warming.
With one out of every five living things on this planet committed to extinction by the levels of greenhouse gases that will accumulate in the next few decades, we are reaching a global climatic tipping point. The Weather Makers is both an urgent warning and a call to arms, outlining the history of climate change, how it will unfold over the next century, and what we can do to prevent a cataclysmic future. Originally somewhat of a global warming skeptic, Tim Flannery spent several years researching the topic and offers a connect-the-dots approach for a reading public who has received patchy or misleading information on the subject. Pulling on his expertise as a scientist to discuss climate change from a historical perspective, Flannery also explains how climate change is interconnected across the planet.
This edition includes an new afterword by the author.

METHOD CLEANING PRODUCTS

METHOD 00012-0 CUC 25 Oz Dish Soap Cuke Case of 6

I know I wrote about a Method cleaning kit previously but this weekend while I was washing my dishes with my Method Cucumber scented dish soap I had to read the back lable. I am addicted to reading the backs of my products from ingredients, to fun facts to the company story. While reading the back of my dish soap I happened upon something that made me even happier that I use their products. IT WAS MADE IN THE USA!!!! I am still doing some research to see if all of the products are made in the USA but I know their dishsoap is! I have used Method’s laundry detergent, the hand soap, bathroom cleaner you name it. I am in love with their products. They are inexpensive and if you click below you can order your own Method Cleaning Kits. The Ultimate Green Store Green Cleaning. If you haven’t tried their products yet you should! Let me know how they worked out for you! Remember it is important to support companies they invest in supporting our environment and the USA!

BBQ’d Grapes

Now that it is summer and our BBQs are out it is time to find fun new creative things to make! I found this recipe after searching for fruit skewers Barbecue Grapes. This recipe is simple and quick for a snack, for cheese pairings or even for an appetizer at your next BBQ!

Ingredients:

* 1/2 pound organic grapes, separated into small clusters
* 3/4 teaspoon Zoe Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
* 1/8 teaspoon Pacific Salt Organic Fine Sea Salt, 16-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 6)
* Simply Organic Black Pepper
* 1/4 cup low-fat organic yogurt (any flavor you prefer)
* If You Care 100% Recycled Aluminum Foil

Directions:

Make sure the barbecue has been burning for a while. The grapes cook quick so too much heat will burn them fast. Arrange grape clusters in a single layer on aluminum foil or if you have a wood block or pizza stone . Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Turn periodically to make sure all sides get browned. Cook until the skins are slightly crisp but the grapes are still soft and juicy inside, about 10-15 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature, with yogurt for dipping. You could also dip in honey or as a topping for frozen yogurt. The grapes would also go nice cooked with or as a garnish for a grilled fish dinner.

Green Up your 4th

The 4th is almost here! I know this is a time everyone gets ready for big parties and lots of fireworks but as much as I like to party I really am interested in finding new greener ways to celebrate. So I searched the web and brought it to my twitterer’s and fellow FB greenies. Here are some ideas I found:

Bring or Biu Biodegradable or Reusable Cutlery

Use recycled or biodegradable plates, cups & bowls

Purchase locally grown organic fruits and veggies

Buy food with as little packaging as possible. Try making as much as you can yourself at home.

Use your regular dishes, bowls and plates for food storage. You can bring them home and wash them instead of throwing out containers.

Carpool, walk, bikeor skate to your destination if possible.

Make your own decorations. That can be part of the planning fun. Holiday Magic : The Art of Making Decorations for Eventful Days Thoughout the Year

Use organic charcoal for your grill or even this lump charcoal 20LB Lump Charcoal

Terra Chips Stripes & Blues Sea Salt, 6.5-Ounce (Pack of 12)I saw this suggestion on BlissTree.com just for funzies.

Use solar lights if your party goes into the night. Wild Grass Solar Garden Lights. 3 LED Lights, 2V/80mAh solar panel. 1.2 V/500 AAA Ni-MH Rechargeable Battery. There are many different fun kinds of lights that are sold everywhere.

Make your own ice. Prepare ahead of time. These trays are recyclable and made out of rubber.  Lekue Silicone Ice Cube Tray, Star.  You can make them red and blue colored if you want.

As for the fireworks and sparklers that’s a big ol’ no for at home but if there is a big community event then participate in that. In this case less is definitely more.

After the party be smart about what is left over. Use the food for compost if it can’t be eaten. Recycle anything that you aren’t planning on reusing.  Be careful with your homemade decorations. Save them for next year. Who knows what other events they may be good for.

What else can you think of to help make our 4th of July greener this year?

I used to have these sneakers in high school! They were my favorite! The soles of the shoes were speckled with different colors and they were canvas. If I wasn’t wearing my Converse these were it! After a while finding them became extremely difficult. I was beyond disappointed. Then when I started watching Curb Your Enthusiasm I saw Larry David in what looked like my favorite old style! I am not sure if those were the brand of  his sneakers but I am almost positive! Larry David’s now ex-wife is an environmental activist so I was hoping Simple Shoes were back in action, and so they are!!
In my sneaker search I found these comfy slip-ons. They come in a variety of colors and to top it off they are soo very environmentally friendly!
