Organic Homemade Kitty Treats

Over the holidays I usually purchase my friends and families pets safe and organic treats for the holidays but it never really occurred to me to make them myself. I know it is a little more time consuming but with all of the other holiday backing going on why not right? I found this quick and simple cat treat recipe that any cat would love.

Supplies:
cookie sheet
½ cup organic whole wheat flour
½ cup non-fat, organic powdered milk
½ cup cooked and chopped organic chicken
1 tbs. organic vegetable oil
1 organic egg, beaten
¼ cup water
1 tbs. chopped, fresh organic catnip

1. Mix together the powdered milk, flour and catnip in a bowl.
2. Add the egg, organic chicken, vegetable oil and water and mix until dough becomes sticky.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
4. Grease the cookie sheet to make sure the treats don’t stick.
5. Form treats in to any shape or size you like. You can even use cookie cutters if you have ones small enough.
6. Place on cookie sheets to bake for 10 minutes.
7. Take out of oven and flip treats to cook for another 10 minutes so they cook evenly on both sides.
8. Remove treats from the oven and let cool before giving them to your kitty.

Animal Foster & Rescue

Animal Foster & Rescue

I know many of you have probably noticed my focusing on helping rescue animals lately. I have recently started working with some people who really focus on trying to keep innocent animals from getting euthanized due to lack of space in shelters and at ACC’s (Animal Care & Control). This is an issue that has always been close to my heart as both of my pooches are rescues one from NYCACC. It is no question to me that these animals need saving. It breaks my heart when I see things like Gone But Not Forgotten folders with images of hundreds of dogs that have been put to sleep for no reason other than there is no where else to put them.
The holiday’s are coming up and I ask that maybe you can find it in your heart to help those that cannot help themselves. Even if you cannot adopt a pet you can foster and help find them a good home! This is the season of giving sooo instead of spending money on presents spend your time and love on a pet that would other wise probably be put to sleep. Even if you have other pets or are apprehensive you can find a pet best suited to you.
If you can or want to adopt think of all of the benefits adoption has. You don’t spend thousands of dollars on a 3lb pooch that was bred with its own parents who will probably only last a few years because of the medical issues inbreeding causes in animals. If you rescue you give a pet a chance to have a safe and loving home which all animals deserve. You will feel better about yourself and your decision everyday you look in to your rescues eyes. I promise you they appreciate it and will love you just as much for keeping them safe.
I thank my pooches everyday for finding me and saving me because without them and the experiences they having given me I would definitely be without. I urge all of you who read my blog or who just plain love animals to seriously consider fostering or adopting this season. You won’t regret it!
If you are interested and are in the NY area click here and bring home your new best friend today!! If you aren’t in the area you can google your local ACC and find out their requirements.
If you have rescued your pet please tell us your story and we will post it on our blog so everyone gets a chance to feel the love!!

Smart Cat Scratching Ramp

SmartCat Scratching Ramp

SmartCat Scratching Ramp

Recently we rescued the cutest little kitten ever! When we found her her little leg was broken but after some time and many a vet visit she is good as new. Now that she is fixed she is a high-speed scratching torpedo! My curtains, our furniture, nothing is safe! Our older cat may claw the carpets a bit but nothing major. This mini Freddy Kruger has us looking like we just came out of The New Nightmare! It was time this tiny terror got herself a scratching post! So here it is SmartCat Scratching Ramp. This scratching ramp uses cardboard inserts so when kitty is finished you can just recycle the inside!

Production Decsription:

The Inclined to Scratch angled cardboard scratching ramp has stable non-slip ends to hold firm against any surface without adhesives. The tear-away cover allows for maximum scratching area, and replaceable cardboard inserts make it reusable and even more economical. Ramp is 21.5″ tall x 7.5″ wide.

Kitty Training Tips:

•Place the scratching ramp in a room where the cat spends a lot of time. Cats often like to stretch and scratch when they wake up from a nap.
•To introduce the scratching ramp to your cat try using catnip as a lure. (For most cats a lure is unnecessary, but fun.) Rub catnip onto the sisal material and call the cat over to the scratching ramp.
•Scratch your nails along the surface of the material. This will attract the cat and at the same time teach him where to scratch.
•After your cat begins to scratch, praise him and give him a food treat. (Small kittens can be trained to climb the scratching ramp by showing them food treats and placing it at the top of the scratching ramp.
•If your cat has already been scratching a piece of furniture, place the scratching ramp directly in front of it.
•Temporarily cover the previously scratched areas with a few strips of double-sided carpet tape or clear double-sided tape strips that are designed for this purpose. This will help redirect your cat’s scratching activities to the scratching ramp.
