I know many of you have probably noticed my focusing on helping rescue animals lately. I have recently started working with some people who really focus on trying to keep innocent animals from getting euthanized due to lack of space in shelters and at ACC’s (Animal Care & Control). This is an issue that has always been close to my heart as both of my pooches are rescues one from NYCACC. It is no question to me that these animals need saving. It breaks my heart when I see things like Gone But Not Forgotten folders with images of hundreds of dogs that have been put to sleep for no reason other than there is no where else to put them.
The holiday’s are coming up and I ask that maybe you can find it in your heart to help those that cannot help themselves. Even if you cannot adopt a pet you can foster and help find them a good home! This is the season of giving sooo instead of spending money on presents spend your time and love on a pet that would other wise probably be put to sleep. Even if you have other pets or are apprehensive you can find a pet best suited to you.
If you can or want to adopt think of all of the benefits adoption has. You don’t spend thousands of dollars on a 3lb pooch that was bred with its own parents who will probably only last a few years because of the medical issues inbreeding causes in animals. If you rescue you give a pet a chance to have a safe and loving home which all animals deserve. You will feel better about yourself and your decision everyday you look in to your rescues eyes. I promise you they appreciate it and will love you just as much for keeping them safe.
I thank my pooches everyday for finding me and saving me because without them and the experiences they having given me I would definitely be without. I urge all of you who read my blog or who just plain love animals to seriously consider fostering or adopting this season. You won’t regret it!
If you are interested and are in the NY area click here and bring home your new best friend today!! If you aren’t in the area you can google your local ACC and find out their requirements.
If you have rescued your pet please tell us your story and we will post it on our blog so everyone gets a chance to feel the love!!

Today I finally opened the Gone but Not Forgottenalbum for dogs who didn’t get rescued in time on Facebook. I cannot tell you how much my heart hurts today after seeing soo many beautiful animals needlessly killed because they couldn’t be adopted or fostered. I have been trying to do my part and sharing these dogs stories and photos with as many people as I can in hopes of helping these poor dogs find a new home. This “cross-posting” definitely takes a toll especially when an animal you were trying to save is put in the Gone But Not Forgotten photo album.
Today I write this article to ask for two things:
1. Help “cross-posters” out! Share the photos and stories of these animals so we can keep them from being destroyed. Please either e-mail me or find me on Facebook and I will get you in touch with the right people. Please help us help these animals.
2. Please read and follow NO Kill NEWS so you can stay on top of the news on where animals might be able to go or new laws that can help us save these guys! Another way to help is by visiting the NO KILL NATION store and help support an amazing cause.
Rescuing animals is something so near and dear to me. All of my pets are rescues and I encourage everyone I come across who is searching for a pet to rescue one. You are doing your community and the animal such a service. Imagine someone just leaving you out on the streets by yourself and one day you get brought to a place where you know no one or what is going on only to be destroyed a short time later. Why would we treat any living thing that way? These animals can’t help themselves they need us to care. With all the wrong that goes on in this world on a daily basis something small like helping rescues find a forever home is something that is so right and will make you feel amazing. Please help these hardworking cross posters and please please donate to NO Kill NATION!

Every year I like to do a list of things you can do to help make your Halloween a bit greener for everyone. Here are some trends I noticed last year that I thought would be great to make traditions! I also did some research on other green articles that had excellent tips for this years green Halloween attempts.

1. Make your own costumes! You know you have most of the supplies at home so get on with it. Yes, it can be time consuming and maybe it won’t always look as amazing as a store bought one but DIY will save you money and probably force you to be more creative if you lack sewing skills. I know I have said it before but do you want to spend a ton of money on something you might get one use out of?

2. Buy only organic or vegan candy. Make sure you know where your candy is coming from and what is in it. You might inspire someone else to go green as well. Generally kids don’t know or care as long as they see candy. On holiday’s like this it is about quantity for them not quality so sneak in some good stuff and who knows it might become their new favorite kind.

3. Yeah I’m going to say it…REUSABLE BAGS! I know the pumpkins are traditional but they are crap! Places like Nubius Organics have reusable Halloween bags or make your own! You need things to keep your children occupied in the colder months right! Have them do some work and get creative. You can again save some money.

4. Have a neighborhood Halloween party. Help keep your children save and coordinate with other neighbors on food, costumes and activities. This way you can make sure everyone does their part and most importantly trick or treaters can stay safe. I have notice around me many of the schools host the parties or parents will have one to keep children off of the streets. This cuts down on litter and destruction that generally happens on Halloween not to mention on transportation.

5. Make your own decorations. You know you have ones that you are considering throwing out or some creepy things you have in your attic or basement. Get to using them! You can save money (see a theme here) and reuse stuff you were probably going to throw away. If you have kids you know you have stuff around the house that is “crafty”. Make it a game for your children and get a little cleaning done at the same time. Take time to fix up old or broken decorations.

6. Go local when you need your pumpkins, gourds and produce. This is a great time of year to go to farm stands and local stores. They have amazing produce now! I know in some areas the weather hit pretty hard but you can get your corn stalks and hay from a farm near you. You know a house with real decorations opposed to fake plastic ones is way creepier! Plus you are helping out your local community.

These are all simple and possibly repetitive ways to keep it green. If you follow these simple steps for the years to come you can really impact your children, home and neighborhood! You know that will make you feel down right special so do it!

One of my favorite people who just hosted a donation event at her home about two weeks ago is now participating in the 18th Annual Stroll to the Sea Dog Walk for Arf Hamptons. If you click here you can donate to this amazing cause. I have probably over mentioned my dedication to rescuing animals and how much every little bit you give helps in heaps and bounds. It is important we help support these causes before more animals are put down. No one likes to see the pictures rescue’s post about animals being put down. It breaks my heart every time I even think about it. Your participation in donating could save that many more animals from being needlessly murdered. Please do you part and help support an amazing cause!

Description:
More Info Around the world, consciousness of the threat to our environment is growing. The majority of solutions on offer, from using efficient light bulbs to biking to work, focus on individual lifestyle changes, yet the scale of the crisis requires far deeper adjustments.

Ecology and Socialism argues that time still remains to save humanity and the planet, but only by building social movements for environmental justice that can demand qu…alitative changes in our economy, workplaces, and infrastructure.

About the Author:
Chris Williams is a longtime environmental activist, based in New York City. He is professor of physics and chemistry at Pace University, and chair of the science department at Packer Collegiate Institute. Williams is also a frequent contributor to the International Socialist Review. Ecology and Socialism is Williams’ first book.

Praise for Ecology and Socialism:
“This book is more than essential reading—it is a powerful weapon in the fight to saveour planet.”
—Ian Angus, editor of
climateandcapitalism.com

“Finally, a book that bridges the best of the scholarly and activist literature’s in socialist ecology! Sophisticated and compelling,
eschewing academic jargons ‘postmodern’ and otherwise, Ecology and Socialism more than competently champions a Marxist approach to environmental crisis and the kind of economic democracy needed to achieve an ecologically friendly system of production and human development.”
—Paul Burkett, author of
Marxism and Ecological Economics

“Ecology and Socialism is not merely about what’s wrong in the world where fossil fuels rule our lives. It also presents a blueprint for change…a cogent and accessible look at one of today’s pressing social issues through the viewpoint of socialist activists and thinkers.”
—Ron Jacobs for Dissident Voice

Today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day!! What are you planning to do today? Do you even know what Earth Day is or what you can do to help? Wikipedia defines Earth Day as it is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day is celebrated in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Many communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. The first Earth Week originated in Philadelphia in 1970 (starting April 16 and culminating on Earth Day, April 22.). Earth Day Network, a group that wishes to become the coordinator of Earth Day globally, asserts that Earth Day is now observed on April 22 on virtually every country on Earth. World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5 in a different nation every year, is the principal United Nations environmental observance.

Personally, I think today should not only be about celebrating the Earth but also about making people who are otherwise unaware or unconcerned about the problems facing our planet more involved! Show them what they can do to help. There are many lists and articles about the small things you can do to change your carbon-footprint, but what can you do to help others change their ideas about what is good for the environment? This is a list of small things you can do to help people in your social environment realize what their options are for not only Earth Day but everyday after it as well!

Why not buy a box of recycled printing paper for the office to show your co-workers or even your boss the importance of using recycled products. Wausau PaperExact Eco 100 Copy/Laser Paper, 92 Brightness, 20lb, Letter Size (8.5 x 11), 500 Sheets/Ream (32518)

Show your neighbors how they can make their backyards a great habitat for nature! Try the Backyard Wildlife Habitat DVD. Every backyard can have potential for any outdoor wildlife! It is important to expose yourself to nature. It helps you understand our environment and how important taking care of it is.

If you are student or you know students use this recycled pencil case to hold all the writing implements necessary!! Its simple a simple and inexpensive way to show you care!
Made By Humans, Recycled Plastic Eco Pencil Case, Grey (497) Pencil cases are an excellent way to stay organized. By using a recycled plastic case you can recycle it again when you are finished with it! Try it out!

Why not put a wind turbine in your back yard or even get your neighbors together and see if they all want to participate and in making the community more energy efficient. You can start small and eventually try to go further in your efforts! Energy efficiency is everyones problem!

Do you have many activities you attend or children’s functions you have to go to? Why not show your friends and your families friends that you are always environmentally friendly!! Use the Juice Bag Solar Beach Tote! to pack all of your going out snacks, towels, drinks etc!

Try purchasing organic or fair trade clothing. You can even purchase clothing and accessories that donate to a worthy cause! What you wear has just as much of an impact as recycling does. You can do all the green things you want but what has more impact than your purchasing power! Show your community you are serious about our environment and they should be as well! Green T is an excellent company to get your head start in green clothing purchases.

Are you doing anything special for Earth Day? Have you done anything to help your community or try to help your community get greener? I want to hear all about it! I will post it!! I want to hear all of your feedback good or negative! We can all come up with ideas to help our local and global communities!!
