The great folks at Eartheasy.com sent me a Grow Your Own Mushroom Kit to try and I think it is just about the coolest thing ever. Here are some pictures I took from day 1 to 6. It supposed to take 10 days but I think my mushrooms are doing soo well I had to show you.

In 6 days this is how much they have grown. All you have to do is keep them out of direct sunlight, spritz with water 2 times a day and watch them grow. Then when you are finished with 1 side. You can turn it around and the start on the other side!!

This is a great way to teach kids about plant care, gardening (albiet differently) and being responsible. This makes a cool gift even for an adult. I have been having so much fun. Every morning I wake up to see how different they look and before I go to bed. They grew so fast I almost couldn’t believe it.Eartheasy.com has some other really cool grow your own kits as well. Echinacea Angustifolia

Many herbalists also recommend echinacea to help boost the immune system and help the body fight infections. FENNEL
Fennel Teas, or Fennel Water have been used throughout history to break up kidney stones, increase the flow of milk in nursing mothers, a weight loss aid, help with menopausal symptoms, quiet hiccups, prevent nausea, aid digestion, prevent gout, purify the liver, reverse alcohol damage to the liver, and treat jaundice. For babies, it is said to to relieve colic and flatulence, and to expel worms. It may be effective when used along with conventional treatments in prostate cancer (and it is worth trying, but consult with your doctor first). The tea can also be gargled as a breath freshener and applied as an eye wash. FEVER FEW

Used for centuries in European folk medicine as a remedy for headaches, arthritis, and fevers. The term feverfew is adapted from the Latin word febrifugia or “fever reducer.”Feverfew is also used to treat menstrual irregularities, labor difficulties, skin conditions, stomach aches, and asthma.

LAVENDER

MULLEIN
Mullein has been used as an alternative medicine in many countries throughout the world. The value of Mullein as a proven medicinal herb is now backed by scientific evidence. Research indicates uses as analgesic, antihistaminic, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antioxidant, antiviral, bacteristat, cardio-depressant, estrogenic, fungicide, hypnotic, sedative and pesticide are valid.

STINGING NETTLE
Stinging nettle has been used to treat painful muscles and joints, eczema, arthritis, gout, and anemia. It is an effective stress reducer, and has benefit in cases of nervous tension, depression, irritability, hysteria, panic, anxiety, fear, stomach cramping, indigestion due to nervousness, delusions, exhaustion, and, of course, nervous sleeplessness. It also appears to have real benefits in cases of sciatica, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, shingles, and peripheral neuropathy, including numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, and pain in the extremities.

What

Urban Harvest is now offering a pre-order monthly fruit tree sale with pick-up at the Urban Harvest farmers market. Every month, there will be a selection of fruit trees specifically for that month, depending on availability from the local growers. We suggest you check the availability monthly and place your order for that month. Your selection may only be available that one month.

How

There are two methods to pre-order.

Go to the Urban Harvest website (urbanharvest.org) and follow the links to download an order form, which you will email back to Urban Harvest.
Visit the farmers market (3000 Richmond Avenue at Eastside, in the back parking lot) on Saturday mornings between 8 a.m. and noon, and order at the Urban Harvest Greeter’s Booth.

When

Pickup will be at the farmers market from 8 a.m. to noon, on the 3rd Saturday morning of the month for which you are ordering. Please plan to have someone pick up your trees, if you are not able to do it yourself. We have no way of storing the trees if they are not picked up.
