Gordon Set of 3 Multicolor Jeweled Handcrafted Candleholders

How beautiful are these candle holders!!  When I first saw them I thought they were made from recycled magazines but they are actually made from mango wood.  Mango wood is considered the new bamboo because of its ability to renew itself.  It isn’t hard enough to be used as flooring but can have many other decorative uses.  Apparently once a mango tree reaches 5 ft in diameter and over 90ft tall it no longer bears fruit.   The Gordon Jeweled Candle Holders are great for a gift or to decorate your home.  They can go with almost any color scheme.  The candle holders are a bit on the pricey side but for sustainable handcrafted home decor the price is quite reasonable.

Product Description: These eco friendly and exotic candle holders feature bright jewel tone accents. Spice up any setting!
Mango Wood is a sustainable wood. Asian farmers plant this tree for its fruit, which is picked and exported. Only when the tree stops producing fruit does it get timbered.

Why Stainless Steel?
Stainless steel is rust resistant because of its chromium content. Since stainless steel doesn’t rust or corrode like other metals and because the metals in stainless steel (nickel, chromium, molybdenum) don’t leak into your food when heated, dented or scratched, stainless steel products are used and recommended by chefs all around world. Stainless steel is a durable metal that keeps its integrity longer than most other cooking materials so you can keep your cooking utensils longer while adding less to landfills. Although many people don’t know this, stainless steel is 100% recyclable unlike many other cooking materials. In fact, on average 60% of the metal in each stainless steel product is obtained from recycling. It can be melted down and recycled, while other materials usually get put into land fills due to a lack of recycling facilities or an inability to recycle certain materials. They make products that stand the test of time, reusability is essential.
RSVP recycles and composts at their manufacturing facility whenever possible, keeping cardboard boxes and paper out of landfills. They have a large container/crusher that they call Chewboxa. Once Chewboxa is full, it is taken to a local recycling center for processing. RSVP is also conscious of their use of plastic and paper in the packaging of products. They use as little as possible while still sufficiently protecting products from damage.
RSVP analyzes green trends in order to make eco-friendly products of the future, available now. For instance, RSVP has been making their stainless steel one gallon composter since 2000, long before composting was so popular.

Get Ethical For Kids This Holiday Season

The holidays are coming up once again and gift buying is clearly in full swing. If you have to make purchases you know I always say to make them ethical. I have found quite a few really cute gift ideas that won’t hurt your wallet or our environment. Gift giving shouldn’t just be about having stuff, they should be meaningful. Make your presents have a statement. You could help recruit a new greenie or even just open someones eyes. Being ethical says you care for not only for our environment but the person you are giving the gift to.

Natural Train Letters – made in USA

How fun is this!!!??? You can get the train personalized! Growing up nothing ever had my name on it and I was always disappointed after searching endlessly and my name would never be there. I am not sure why personalized gifts are always so exciting but I feel like it adds a little something to the purchase.
You can show your support for the planet with an ethical and safe toy for your child or if you are giving it as a gift. You can never go wrong with that! The Name Train is also made in the USA which as you know is becoming more and more important by the day. Support our country and products made in it. The more we purchase the more opportunity we have to bring manufacturing back to our nation.  You can also recycle the train when you are finished with it.
You can use up to 8 letters which is pretty awesome if you ask me. Get a personalized Name Train. Engine, caboose, and 3 letters of your choice (add more letters for $4.75 each)
Ages 3+, made from hard maple with non-toxic finish.

Conch Shell Succulents

Conch Shell Succulents

Conch Shell Succulents

I was looking for some summer crafts to do since we decided against our garden this year as our outdoor fuzzy friends refuse to even give the garden a chance and everything we have tried doesn’t keep them out. I still love me some greenery and didn’t want to slack while the weather is so nice. I have been seeing succulents and succulent projects all over the place.  After much searching I have found a project that I love love love!!
Since it is summer and I know everyone knows at least one person who goes to the beach regularly and collects shells why not make great use of them. You have used sea shells as decorations before but why not as a planter right? This is an excellent way to upcycle! You can give the the conch shell planters away as gifts, do it as a party craft or even save it for next school year for a craft project. Conch shell planters can make beautiful decorations for inside or outside of your home. You can brighten up your office even! Here is all you have to do:
1. get and clean a conch shell
2. buy a pot or if you already have a pot of succulents you can use them
3. spoon

Make sure your conch shell is clean and big enough to give your succulent room to breath. You can really use any plant you want if succulents aren’t your thing.  I am really into the look of succulents lately here in NY you don’t really see them very often as decor.  I really like the look of them and there happens to be a wide variety to work with. Use your spoon to gently dig the plant out by the roots.  Once the roots and plant are out add a little soil to the bottom of the shell to make sure the roots will be covered.  Add the plant then the rest of the soil.  Make sure the soil and plant are packed tight enough to not fall out and there you have it! Your conch shell planter is ready.  I have seen some crafts where you can add wire or twine to hang the planter which is also a super cute idea!

Foster & Rescue For the Holiday’s

Animal Foster & Rescue

Animal Foster & Rescue

I know many of you have probably noticed my focusing on helping rescue animals lately. I have recently started working with some people who really focus on trying to keep innocent animals from getting euthanized due to lack of space in shelters and at ACC’s (Animal Care & Control). This is an issue that has always been close to my heart as both of my pooches are rescues one from NYCACC. It is no question to me that these animals need saving. It breaks my heart when I see things like Gone But Not Forgotten folders with images of hundreds of dogs that have been put to sleep for no reason other than there is no where else to put them.
The holiday’s are coming up and I ask that maybe you can find it in your heart to help those that cannot help themselves. Even if you cannot adopt a pet you can foster and help find them a good home! This is the season of giving sooo instead of spending money on presents spend your time and love on a pet that would other wise probably be put to sleep. Even if you have other pets or are apprehensive you can find a pet best suited to you.
If you can or want to adopt think of all of the benefits adoption has. You don’t spend thousands of dollars on a 3lb pooch that was bred with its own parents who will probably only last a few years because of the medical issues inbreeding causes in animals. If you rescue you give a pet a chance to have a safe and loving home which all animals deserve. You will feel better about yourself and your decision everyday you look in to your rescues eyes. I promise you they appreciate it and will love you just as much for keeping them safe.
I thank my pooches everyday for finding me and saving me because without them and the experiences they having given me I would definitely be without. I urge all of you who read my blog or who just plain love animals to seriously consider fostering or adopting this season. You won’t regret it!
If you are interested and are in the NY area click here and bring home your new best friend today!! If you aren’t in the area you can google your local ACC and find out their requirements.
If you have rescued your pet please tell us your story and we will post it on our blog so everyone gets a chance to feel the love!!

Get started with the Animal rescue today!
