The Lucky Ones: My Passionate Fight for Farm Animals

I heard Jenny Brown’s interview yesterday on NPR and was in love! I have always wanted to do this but every time I mention it people laugh at me like rescuing farm animals is absurd. I cannot wait to read The Lucky Ones: My Passionate Fight for Farm Animals!!!! Not only has Jenny overcome cancer and even lost a leg to it but she has found meaning in her struggle. Jenny’s childhood cat had such an impact on her during her illness she gave back to other animals that couldn’t/can’t fight for themselves.
You can visit Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, sponsor an animal, meet the animals on the website, volunteer, donate and so much more! Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary is a beautiful cause for more than just rescuing neglected and abused animals. You can learn about why eating meat and torturing animals is unnecessary despite what big corporations try to tell you. You can participate and be the change these animals need you to be. Farm animals don’t have many choices and can’t fight for themselves especially in some of the conditions they live in.
You should take the time to read The Lucky Ones: My Passionate Fight for Farm Animals and learn more about the cause, how you can help and what you can do to cause change. You never know what good things can come from this kind of knowledge.

Book Description: Jenny Brown was just ten years old when she lost a leg to bone cancer. Throughout the ordeal, her constant companion was a cat named Boogie. Years later, she would make the connection between her feline friend and the farm animals she ate, acknowledging that most of America’s domesticated animals live on industrialized farms, and are viewed as mere production units. Raised in a conservative Southern Baptist family in Kentucky, Brown had been taught to avoid asking questions. But she found her calling and the courage to speak out. She left a flourishing career as a film and television producer after going undercover and exposing horrific animal abuse in Texas stockyards.
Bringing to life this exhilarating transformation, The Lucky Ones introduces readers to Brown’s crowning achievement, the renowned Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary she established with her husband in 2004. With a cast of unforgettable survivors, including a fugitive slaughterhouse cow named Kayli; Albie, the three-legged goat; and Quincy, an Easter duckling found abandoned in New York City, The Lucky Ones reveals shocking statistics about the prevalence of animal abuse throughout America’s agribusinesses. Blending wry humor with unflinching honesty, Brown brings a compelling new voice to the healthy-living movement—and to the vulnerable, voiceless creatures among us.

Rescue A Dog, Save A Life

Please help these amazing animals find homes! If you don’t they will be destroyed. Do you have any idea how many dogs are destroyed a day, month year all over the United States? It is heartbreaking and horrible! Please rescue a dog and save a life!

Daniel

Daniel

DANIEL A0926583We know Daniel has a beautiful feminine features look at her face. We also know she is hurt, but we aren’t told more than that; what is hurt or how bad. She did get a green on her medical eval, so that means even though she was in pain she was polite, lady like and used her manners! Lets get her out and give her the vet assistance she needs because even though we don’t know what she’ll need from the vet.

Diamond

Diamond

DIAMOND (A0926174)Diamond came in with Queen, two scared girls now living in cages. Diamond can add pizzazz in your life~who doesn’t need that! A person visiting the shelter saw this happening and said, ” they are lovely, extremely timid, trembling dogs, both with tails tucked between their legs. Mild-mannered in every way. Both looking up into their master’s eyes for any sign of what was happening to them or what would come next. Shy, loving, fearful, trusting. He said good-bye to them and they were led into the back.

Eva

Eva

EVA (A0922743)Eva is a wonderful girl who is so well behaved and yet at risk of being put down soon if no one comes forward to foster or adopt her.  She is strikingly pretty with a well groomed coat, she appears to be house trained “going” as soon as we were on the street, she sits on command and takes treats very gently, she posed beautifully for her pictures, went into the play position when we met big dogs in the park, and ignored the small yappy ones. Eva is good on the leash, walking nicely, checking up with me to make sure everything was OK (and it certainly was!). This is a wonderfully affectionate little girl who will be happy spending time with her human no matter what activity might be happening -a long walk, a ball chase or simply curling up together watching TV. Do make a point of meeting Eva, she is ready to meet her forever family now. She is rated ‘green’ which means she will fit into any living situation. Please help her get out before it’s too late.

Eve

Eve

EVE (A0887616)Eve  has that look on her face that says, “what did I do wrong, tell me and I PROMISE not to do it again! With her tail WRAPPED around her ♥ She’s trying to comfort herself ♥ She was adopted for a month and then returned. Her former owners are moving~~Help a 4 year old petite girl out. Be her comfort

Frank

Frank

FRANK (A0925723)Frank is sleeping in his kennel. He is an older dog and I am wondering if I should disturb him. Let’s do it….I woke him up, picked him up, said a few nice words into his ears, and off we went for a walk…. Frank does not act that old… He trots around the block and when it was time to go back, insisted to stay out a little longer. Frank is a sweet little guy. He seems to have an eye infection but sees well at least with the other eye. He will need medical care upon his discharge from the Care Center. Frank likes to be on the lap and to be caressed. He is a gentle soul who deserves his place in the sun and among humans who will truly care and love him. Frank needs you now. Please start contacting rescues now.

Dutchess

Dutchess

DUTCHESS (A0925442) What kind of story could Dutchess tell us?? She’s already spayed, has a microchip but yet she is in a shelter and half starving? We’ll never know her story but we can can start a new one for her! Let’s start with saving her from death row! Next, take her home and feed her, give her some meds for her cough and LOVE LOVE LOVE her! ♥ She is a total sweetheart and is being overlooked tonight. Please don’t let it be the end of her story tomorrow. Rescue her before it’s too late. NO TIME LEFT!!!

ESSENCE

ESSENCE

ESSENCE (A0925137)A BEAUTIFUL girl with a heart and soul that will complete YOU! Let her Essence be a breath of fresh spring air. Let her start anew, she had a family once, for 2 months. She DESIRES another one. She has a FANTASTIC SAFER. Start your tomorrow and the rest of your tomorrows with an essential aspect for your life.

Rescue-A-Pet 02.24.12

Here are more precious pooches that want nothing more but a safe loving place to call home. You know you could be that person. There is a reason why dogs are called man’s best friend, because they will be. You can make yourself and an innocent animal happy and keep them from being killed for no reason other than they are homeless.

Max

Max

MAX(A0913273)~♥~MAX~♥~Another surrender due to landlord issues! Unfortunately, Max’s former owner must have been in a hurry because he didn’t fill out the form which would tell us important information about Max. From what we can piece together, Max was easy to handle during his exam but didn’t stand for it. That either means he was tired OR being submissive. He’s obviously handsome although a little overweight. We know he’s great on a leash during his walks. We know we have to get him OUT of there before he gets sick or worse. Go see Max at SIACC and find out about him for yourself♥

MARLBORO

Marlboro

MARLBORO (A0924474) SCARED OLDER BROTHER  Marlboro was brought in to the shelter with his younger sister Island and younger brother Coney after their owner was arrested. Looking at the state of Marlboro the owner should be more than arrested. Marlboro is seven years old, the oldest of the bunch, is severely emaciated and terribly neglected. Marlboro is so scared and out of sorts he did not do well on his initial exam. Do you blame him? He left one bad situation only to end up in a worse one. Marlboro needs someone who he can trust and let his guard down to. He has not had that yet in his short life. Won’t you be the one that will show Marlboro that all people aren’t bad? Please start contacting rescues now. Because the shelter doesn’t need an excuse to end a life, and with a negative evaluation Marlboro is an easy target.

Marcus

Marcus

MARCUS (A0924215)**~~MARCUS~~**PERFECT PUP ALERT!!!! Marcus aced his evaluation with all 1′s and is a perfect gentleman. If you’ve never had a dog before, and have always wanted to rescue one, Marcus is your man! Everyone you pass on the street will marvel at his impeccable manners and beautiful brown and white coat as he struts by your side. Marcus deserves that. He deserves a great home with no worries. Can you help him tonight? Can we PLEASE see justice for this sweet boy? Click on his photo for info to foster or adopt.

Lulu

Lulu

LULU(A0923894) ~♥~LULU~♥~While Lulu’s former owner’s are settling into their new home, Lulu is sitting in a cage at MACC. She received an average rating on her behavior eval which is absolutely wonderful! She’s an affectionate and well trained girl. Lulu has become a volunteer favorite due to her sweet and easygoing ways. The thought of Lulu happily leaving her cage tomorrow morning thinking she’s simply going for a walk is sickening. Lulu doesn’t know where they will be taking her, but we do. Save Lulu tonight, please

Lixby

Lixby

LIXBY (A0923871) Lixby was abandoned by her owner only 6 days ago & now on the kill list for EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. She just lost all that she has ever known & loved. This sweet girl is terribly scared at the shelter, but she still managed to get great scores on her behavior evaluation. She did especially well with the helper dog & showed no aggression at all. Please don’t let Lixby die tomorrow, she has so much to offer. Just look at that sweet face begging you to pick her & take her home with you. Please adopt Lixby from the Brooklyn shelter or click on her picture & ask for help on her thread. Hurry..she’s waiting for you.

Zoey is sick with “the cold” and needs our help. Please consider fostering/adopting this sweet treat before she gets on the dreaded list♥

NEEDS IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!!!! Voge is an eight year old female collie mix who “strayed” into Manhattan ACC with an open mammary mass. Let’s put aside the fact that she’s a senior, let’s put aside the fact that she’s gorgeous and let’s concentrate on the fact that she is in a high kill, germ infested shelter and needs immediate medical attention. PLEASE share Voge for pledges and a foster/adopter. We are her only advocates, let’s show Voge what we can do♥

TAZZ

TAZZ

TAZZ (A0921015) **FALL IN LOVE WITH TAZZ** Have you ever seen a more magnificent dog? Tazz is at the Brooklyn ACC waiting for that special someone to take him home and love him. This 3 yr old gorgeous boy is way past the hyper puppy rambunctiousness but still young enough to go running or play frisbee with. Tazz has been at the shelter for over a month and he’s longing to be in a home where he can have a warm bed, treats and a master to love with every fiber of his being. Will you be that special person? Please adopt TAZZ directly from Brooklyn or click on his picture and get help if you wish to foster.

Foster & Rescue For the Holiday’s

Animal Foster & Rescue

Animal Foster & Rescue

I know many of you have probably noticed my focusing on helping rescue animals lately. I have recently started working with some people who really focus on trying to keep innocent animals from getting euthanized due to lack of space in shelters and at ACC’s (Animal Care & Control). This is an issue that has always been close to my heart as both of my pooches are rescues one from NYCACC. It is no question to me that these animals need saving. It breaks my heart when I see things like Gone But Not Forgotten folders with images of hundreds of dogs that have been put to sleep for no reason other than there is no where else to put them.
The holiday’s are coming up and I ask that maybe you can find it in your heart to help those that cannot help themselves. Even if you cannot adopt a pet you can foster and help find them a good home! This is the season of giving sooo instead of spending money on presents spend your time and love on a pet that would other wise probably be put to sleep. Even if you have other pets or are apprehensive you can find a pet best suited to you.
If you can or want to adopt think of all of the benefits adoption has. You don’t spend thousands of dollars on a 3lb pooch that was bred with its own parents who will probably only last a few years because of the medical issues inbreeding causes in animals. If you rescue you give a pet a chance to have a safe and loving home which all animals deserve. You will feel better about yourself and your decision everyday you look in to your rescues eyes. I promise you they appreciate it and will love you just as much for keeping them safe.
I thank my pooches everyday for finding me and saving me because without them and the experiences they having given me I would definitely be without. I urge all of you who read my blog or who just plain love animals to seriously consider fostering or adopting this season. You won’t regret it!
If you are interested and are in the NY area click here and bring home your new best friend today!! If you aren’t in the area you can google your local ACC and find out their requirements.
If you have rescued your pet please tell us your story and we will post it on our blog so everyone gets a chance to feel the love!!

Get started with the Animal rescue today!

Animal Rescue Fund

One of my favorite people who just hosted a donation event at her home about two weeks ago is now participating in the 18th Annual Stroll to the Sea Dog Walk for Arf Hamptons. If you click here you can donate to this amazing cause. I have probably over mentioned my dedication to rescuing animals and how much every little bit you give helps in heaps and bounds. It is important we help support these causes before more animals are put down. No one likes to see the pictures rescue’s post about animals being put down. It breaks my heart every time I even think about it. Your participation in donating could save that many more animals from being needlessly murdered. Please do you part and help support an amazing cause!
