Persephone

Persephone

I realized the other day I talk about my pets but I have never really described them or their stories before. I do have plenty of them and they all have such credible personalities I think they could all use their own separate posts!
My latest addition to my zoo brood is Persephone. She is the sister of Panda (my second to last addition but I’ll go into more detail about him in another post.) Persephone is a tiny tiny grey and white kitty! She has sporadic longer white hairs that stick out of her coat, just like Panda and kind of reminds me of Skeksis, if you don’t know what this is click here please, but her fur is soft and snuggly just like she is but on her own terms.
I wasn’t supposed to even have Persephone or even another kitten, or even a kitten at all but as luck would have it one of my fave friend’s kitties had kittens.  I went with this “friend” to go feed her kittens and I feel in love with Persephone immediately but as I would learn she was off in her own world and didn’t that anyone was in the room with her. Her brother had different ideas however and I wound up taking him home instead.  A few weekends later I was kitten sitting for that same “friend” and decided to take Persephone with me just for funzies.  At first I wasn’t sure I even wanted her.  She wasn’t very happy to be at my zoo and she didn’t even care I was alive. She was immediately off on her own investigating the place. After 5 minutes of her being at my house she managed to scratch me in the face and I was convinced I would be bringing her back to my “friends” ASAP.
Then I saw her and her brother Panda playing and it was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. Two tiny kitties rolling around on the floor, chasing each other, running into things and getting into mischief together! I loved it! That isn’t what made me love Sephie (my name for her) either. What made me love her is her independence. She is fearless. In the first 5 minutes after scratching me in the face she was off to climbing up some large furniture that her brother who I had had for 2 weeks didn’t even attempt to try to get to. She was jumping of things and trying to jump onto things much higher and bigger than I thought she should be but that was not going to stop little Seph. I would sit and watch her go off on her own and you would notice after a little bit that Panda would follow her and let her test stuff out first before he tried it. By the end of the weekend it was decided that I had to keep her. While my big panther Rupert still Sephie and Panda up a bit they both love my Skye (the long pooch in what is now a sea of kitties) she was clearly one of us!
Now that we all have our routines down Sephie seems to be the trailblazer who wants to hang with the big kids, Skye and Rue, but can still get rough and tumble with her brother and be silly. Then when I am not paying attention she sneaks up to me and gets super

lovie

” target=”_blank”>lovie and snuggly. I didn’t expect it the first few times I saw it but relished in it. Now when she wants some alone time she either hides (on two separate occasions I thought I lost her in my house or she got out because she is that good at “alone time”) or she snuggles up on me somewhere I cannot see, because she is the tiniest little kitty ever, and just relaxes. All I can do is pick her up and smooch her a million times even when she miss behaves because I just cannot help myself. Her fearlessness is something I completely admire and adore. She is even a protector in times and her size seems to make no difference to her. I know that one day she will grow up into a big kitty but for now I am enjoying how mini she is and I just hope that she stays mini for as long as possible!!
I hope maybe I can learn from her and get some added courage and fearlessness in my life. Maybe I shouldn’t be afraid to take those big leaps because the worst that can happen I suppose is I fall. I may not be a cat and land on my feet but like Sephie I should pick myself back up and try all over again until I don’t fall!

Rescue A Furb Today Please!

I love all of the work and effort rescues put into trying to save as many animal lives as they can. They work tirelessly and give so much of their own time, money and love to try to save these animals that most other people could care less about on a daily basis. The least we can do is make sure that we help them help these pets as often as we can. Pass this post, these pictures and links around as much as you possibly can! You never know you might be responsible for saving a life or maybe more!

Frank

Frank

Frank is a goofy boy! He is a staff and volunteer FAVORITE! Frank is social, polite, and knows how to charm everyone in the room. Frank LOVES to play ball! While out in the yard today, the volunteer said that once she got tired of throwing the ball for Frank, he took over and played fetch with himself! While in the office, Frank was calm and well- behaved, basking in all of the attention he was receiving. He sat down and spun around on his butt to face each person willing to pet him. Frank responded very well to positive reinforcement training, and seemed to really enjoy learning!

Ferry Mama

Ferry Mama

Ferry Mama is beyond beautiful! needs a home ASAP! She is obedient, affectionate and leash trained according to helpers. Everyone that met her says she is an amazing lady and would love to be in a home ASAP! Ferry Mama was found as a stray wondering the streets of Staten Island and would very much like to have a new forever home to be comfortable in.  She loves to snuggle and play and wants to share her love with someone that will love her back.

Chili

Chili

Chili is definitely one of the good guys, the kind your Mom refers to as ‘a keeper’. He’s sweet-natured, respectful, extremely friendly and stunningly handsome – just look into those bi-colored eyes and tell me you’re not smitten! Chili is snuggly and happy to see me when leashed up for a walk. Once out in the yard he’s even happier to see his favorite toy, the tennis ball. The only thing Chili enjoys more than tennis balls are his fellow dogs and he’ll literally drop what he’s doing and run over to greet them with a wiggly butt and happy ‘helicopter tail’. Chili keeps a clean den, uses the bathroom promptly once outside.

Nutmeg

Nutmeg

Nutmeg is sugar and spice and all things nice! Named for the seed whose color she shares, Nutmeg is a truly stunning beauty. With her soft, short fur and sleek physique she has the look of royalty. Nutmeg isn’t just a pretty face, she’s also an enthusiastic puppy with personality to spare. She really loves to play with her ball and is thrilled to meet other dogs both large and small. Nutmeg is a little timid around people right now and her tail stays tucked much of the time but she accepts petting and soft words and will obediently sit for treats before taking them very gently from the hand. In the street she walks low and very fast, the walk of a scared young dog. Her new family will need to help Nutmeg learn that the outside world is not going to hurt her and it’s OK to move at a slower pace but with time and love she will get there.

Rescue A Pet to Give Them Something To Be Thankful For

I cannot stress how important it is to rescue an animal if you can. These poor animals aren’t responsible for their situations and shouldn’t have to suffer for human unkindness. It is our duty as citizens of the planet to care for and appreciate living things. Please do what you can to help because these poor babies could lose their lives and have no one but us to protect them.  All of my animals are rescues and I cannot tell you how it warms my heart to see them so happy and cared for.  Too many animals are put down for no reason other than no one wants them.  Please help save a life today! These animals deserve to be loved just as much as any store bought dog.

My name is PATCHES. My Animal ID # is A0950348. I am a female white and brown brindle pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 2 YEARS. Who does that cute face belong to? Look at that tail wagging non stop..and that wiggly body….Her eyes look like two clear jewels. Such a small girl and what a nice coat… A lovely girl, all excited to see a potential caretaker, a friend she can walk and spend time with. I open her door and Patches thinks she can leave without a leash….She is so thrilled to go out. Patches is quite good on the leash, though, no jumping, no rope grabbing, barely pulling at times and very nice with the other dogs we met. She relieves herself as soon as we leave the care center, making me think that she might be house trained. Patches is very playful and friendly. She runs after the ball, plays tag and is as happy as a clam coming on my lap for hugs and kisses. Indeed, Patches is full of life, fun to be with and a most affectionate girl. Come and meet Patches at the Manhattan Care Center. The “Little Rascal” is waiting for you.

My name is JACK. My Animal ID # is A0950242. I am a male br brindle and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 4 YEARS old. Jack pulls on the leash and was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. He was stiff and cannot be pushed out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. Jack was not interested in toys or rawhides and rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. This face just say it all!!! Make Jack happy and give him his forever home today!!

My name is NICE. My Animal ID # is A0949605. I am a female black and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old. Nice is a splendid and noble female. She has been very well cared for by her owner who is too ill to have a pet and this is why beautiful Nice is with us at the Manhattan Care Center. Nice is clearly lost and at first, did not want to have anything to do with us volunteers. She would act aloof and very timid. She wants to come out of her kennel though as she is a clean girl and seems house trained. She needs some exercise too. She pulls a tiny bit on the leash and always aims for the gate leading to the street. She wants to go home clearly. She is very hand shy and it takes some time to see a positive reaction to caresses and sweet talks. She comes to sit closer and closer when coaxed. Nice indeed, is more comfortable with someone she knows. Nice is a one man (woman) dog but she could learn, with time, to be a family dog. Nice is indeed a good dog with a sensitive soul. Nice will be able to love again. She just needs to be given a chance.

My name is IVORY. My Animal ID # is A0950481. I am a female cream pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 8 YEARS old. Beautiful Ivory sits so quietly in her kennel, patiently watching and waiting. I’m not sure she wants my attention but when I offer a treat and she gently mouths it from my hand I know that she is waiting for a friend. At first Ivory shys away when I go to pet her but a few minutes into our walk her tail is wagging as I rub her side. Later, I crouch to gently caress her face and she seems to smile at me with blissed out squinty-eyes. Ivory is a stunning blond and her good looks (and those perky ears!) garner a lot of compliments from passers-by. When they approach to pet her she responds with soft tail wags and also seems pleased to see other dogs in the park. Ivory appears to be house trained and though she needs some leash training, she will sit for treats and is quite easy to handle. Ivory is a gentle soul looking for her soul mate, that special person who will move at her pace, giving her the time and affection she needs to blossom into her best self. Someone give this beautiful girl a home ASASP!

My name is NICE. My Animal ID # is A0949813. I am a male br tiger and brown mastiff mix. The shelter thinks I am about 7 YEARS old. Nice is quite an imposing male at 81lbs but calm as a clam. He has beautiful golden eyes and such a soft gaze. He is gentle and grateful for affection. He is obedient and trusting. He appears to appreciate attention. Nice is a beautiful gentle soul. He and Nina (his “sister”) are loving and very deserving of a caring home. They were both very neglected and want help to feel and look better. Help save them before it is too late for them.

My name is SANDY. My Animal ID # is A0950217. I am a female brown and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR 6 MONTHS old. Sandy is an excited little girl that really just wants to go out and play. She likes company and is good on walks and is house trained. Sandy is a young dog who has already been a mother. Her coat is flawless but dull and her nutrition might not have been optimal. She likes treats that she takes politely from the hand. Sandy meets other dogs with a happy tail and a friendly demeanor. She likes to be approached by people too and as we sit in the yard, she settles very close petting sessions and some loving. She definitely knows what a ball is, runs after it but prefers to keep it in her mouth while chewing it. Sandy is a sweet girl, who seems to like people and dogs alike. She might prefer to keep her belongings for herself and will have to learn, that in a house of plenty, there is no need to protect her stuff. Sandy is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping for a better life and the start of a new forever friendship with you. Sandy could be the dog you have always wanted!! Check her out please!!

Rescue A Dog, Save A Life

Please help these amazing animals find homes! If you don’t they will be destroyed. Do you have any idea how many dogs are destroyed a day, month year all over the United States? It is heartbreaking and horrible! Please rescue a dog and save a life!

Daniel

Daniel

DANIEL A0926583We know Daniel has a beautiful feminine features look at her face. We also know she is hurt, but we aren’t told more than that; what is hurt or how bad. She did get a green on her medical eval, so that means even though she was in pain she was polite, lady like and used her manners! Lets get her out and give her the vet assistance she needs because even though we don’t know what she’ll need from the vet.

Diamond

Diamond

DIAMOND (A0926174)Diamond came in with Queen, two scared girls now living in cages. Diamond can add pizzazz in your life~who doesn’t need that! A person visiting the shelter saw this happening and said, ” they are lovely, extremely timid, trembling dogs, both with tails tucked between their legs. Mild-mannered in every way. Both looking up into their master’s eyes for any sign of what was happening to them or what would come next. Shy, loving, fearful, trusting. He said good-bye to them and they were led into the back.

Eva

Eva

EVA (A0922743)Eva is a wonderful girl who is so well behaved and yet at risk of being put down soon if no one comes forward to foster or adopt her.  She is strikingly pretty with a well groomed coat, she appears to be house trained “going” as soon as we were on the street, she sits on command and takes treats very gently, she posed beautifully for her pictures, went into the play position when we met big dogs in the park, and ignored the small yappy ones. Eva is good on the leash, walking nicely, checking up with me to make sure everything was OK (and it certainly was!). This is a wonderfully affectionate little girl who will be happy spending time with her human no matter what activity might be happening -a long walk, a ball chase or simply curling up together watching TV. Do make a point of meeting Eva, she is ready to meet her forever family now. She is rated ‘green’ which means she will fit into any living situation. Please help her get out before it’s too late.

Eve

Eve

EVE (A0887616)Eve  has that look on her face that says, “what did I do wrong, tell me and I PROMISE not to do it again! With her tail WRAPPED around her ♥ She’s trying to comfort herself ♥ She was adopted for a month and then returned. Her former owners are moving~~Help a 4 year old petite girl out. Be her comfort

Frank

Frank

FRANK (A0925723)Frank is sleeping in his kennel. He is an older dog and I am wondering if I should disturb him. Let’s do it….I woke him up, picked him up, said a few nice words into his ears, and off we went for a walk…. Frank does not act that old… He trots around the block and when it was time to go back, insisted to stay out a little longer. Frank is a sweet little guy. He seems to have an eye infection but sees well at least with the other eye. He will need medical care upon his discharge from the Care Center. Frank likes to be on the lap and to be caressed. He is a gentle soul who deserves his place in the sun and among humans who will truly care and love him. Frank needs you now. Please start contacting rescues now.

Dutchess

Dutchess

DUTCHESS (A0925442) What kind of story could Dutchess tell us?? She’s already spayed, has a microchip but yet she is in a shelter and half starving? We’ll never know her story but we can can start a new one for her! Let’s start with saving her from death row! Next, take her home and feed her, give her some meds for her cough and LOVE LOVE LOVE her! ♥ She is a total sweetheart and is being overlooked tonight. Please don’t let it be the end of her story tomorrow. Rescue her before it’s too late. NO TIME LEFT!!!

ESSENCE

ESSENCE

ESSENCE (A0925137)A BEAUTIFUL girl with a heart and soul that will complete YOU! Let her Essence be a breath of fresh spring air. Let her start anew, she had a family once, for 2 months. She DESIRES another one. She has a FANTASTIC SAFER. Start your tomorrow and the rest of your tomorrows with an essential aspect for your life.

Rescue-A-Pet 02.24.12

Here are more precious pooches that want nothing more but a safe loving place to call home. You know you could be that person. There is a reason why dogs are called man’s best friend, because they will be. You can make yourself and an innocent animal happy and keep them from being killed for no reason other than they are homeless.

Max

Max

MAX(A0913273)~♥~MAX~♥~Another surrender due to landlord issues! Unfortunately, Max’s former owner must have been in a hurry because he didn’t fill out the form which would tell us important information about Max. From what we can piece together, Max was easy to handle during his exam but didn’t stand for it. That either means he was tired OR being submissive. He’s obviously handsome although a little overweight. We know he’s great on a leash during his walks. We know we have to get him OUT of there before he gets sick or worse. Go see Max at SIACC and find out about him for yourself♥

MARLBORO

Marlboro

MARLBORO (A0924474) SCARED OLDER BROTHER  Marlboro was brought in to the shelter with his younger sister Island and younger brother Coney after their owner was arrested. Looking at the state of Marlboro the owner should be more than arrested. Marlboro is seven years old, the oldest of the bunch, is severely emaciated and terribly neglected. Marlboro is so scared and out of sorts he did not do well on his initial exam. Do you blame him? He left one bad situation only to end up in a worse one. Marlboro needs someone who he can trust and let his guard down to. He has not had that yet in his short life. Won’t you be the one that will show Marlboro that all people aren’t bad? Please start contacting rescues now. Because the shelter doesn’t need an excuse to end a life, and with a negative evaluation Marlboro is an easy target.

Marcus

Marcus

MARCUS (A0924215)**~~MARCUS~~**PERFECT PUP ALERT!!!! Marcus aced his evaluation with all 1′s and is a perfect gentleman. If you’ve never had a dog before, and have always wanted to rescue one, Marcus is your man! Everyone you pass on the street will marvel at his impeccable manners and beautiful brown and white coat as he struts by your side. Marcus deserves that. He deserves a great home with no worries. Can you help him tonight? Can we PLEASE see justice for this sweet boy? Click on his photo for info to foster or adopt.

Lulu

Lulu

LULU(A0923894) ~♥~LULU~♥~While Lulu’s former owner’s are settling into their new home, Lulu is sitting in a cage at MACC. She received an average rating on her behavior eval which is absolutely wonderful! She’s an affectionate and well trained girl. Lulu has become a volunteer favorite due to her sweet and easygoing ways. The thought of Lulu happily leaving her cage tomorrow morning thinking she’s simply going for a walk is sickening. Lulu doesn’t know where they will be taking her, but we do. Save Lulu tonight, please

Lixby

Lixby

LIXBY (A0923871) Lixby was abandoned by her owner only 6 days ago & now on the kill list for EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. She just lost all that she has ever known & loved. This sweet girl is terribly scared at the shelter, but she still managed to get great scores on her behavior evaluation. She did especially well with the helper dog & showed no aggression at all. Please don’t let Lixby die tomorrow, she has so much to offer. Just look at that sweet face begging you to pick her & take her home with you. Please adopt Lixby from the Brooklyn shelter or click on her picture & ask for help on her thread. Hurry..she’s waiting for you.

Foster & Rescue For the Holiday’s

Animal Foster & Rescue

Animal Foster & Rescue

I know many of you have probably noticed my focusing on helping rescue animals lately. I have recently started working with some people who really focus on trying to keep innocent animals from getting euthanized due to lack of space in shelters and at ACC’s (Animal Care & Control). This is an issue that has always been close to my heart as both of my pooches are rescues one from NYCACC. It is no question to me that these animals need saving. It breaks my heart when I see things like Gone But Not Forgotten folders with images of hundreds of dogs that have been put to sleep for no reason other than there is no where else to put them.
The holiday’s are coming up and I ask that maybe you can find it in your heart to help those that cannot help themselves. Even if you cannot adopt a pet you can foster and help find them a good home! This is the season of giving sooo instead of spending money on presents spend your time and love on a pet that would other wise probably be put to sleep. Even if you have other pets or are apprehensive you can find a pet best suited to you.
If you can or want to adopt think of all of the benefits adoption has. You don’t spend thousands of dollars on a 3lb pooch that was bred with its own parents who will probably only last a few years because of the medical issues inbreeding causes in animals. If you rescue you give a pet a chance to have a safe and loving home which all animals deserve. You will feel better about yourself and your decision everyday you look in to your rescues eyes. I promise you they appreciate it and will love you just as much for keeping them safe.
I thank my pooches everyday for finding me and saving me because without them and the experiences they having given me I would definitely be without. I urge all of you who read my blog or who just plain love animals to seriously consider fostering or adopting this season. You won’t regret it!
If you are interested and are in the NY area click here and bring home your new best friend today!! If you aren’t in the area you can google your local ACC and find out their requirements.
If you have rescued your pet please tell us your story and we will post it on our blog so everyone gets a chance to feel the love!!

Get started with the Animal rescue today!
