Description On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people, organizations, corporations and governments will come together to make a bold statement about their concern for climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour. Earth Hour symbolizes that by working together, each of us can have a positive impact in the fight against climate change, protecting our future and that of future generations.

In the U.S. where the impacts of climate change are already being felt, Earth Hour sends a message that Americans care about this issue and stand with the world in seeking to find solutions to the escalating climate crisis because if we don’t, who will.

Participation is easy. By flipping off your light switch on March 27th at 8:30 p.m. (your local time wherever you are) you will be casting your vote for action on climate change. We also encourage you to unplug everything… and start earlier, go all night!

Since its inception three years ago, Earth Hour’s non-partisan approach has captured the world’s imagination and became a global phenomenon. Nearly one billion people turned out for Earth Hour 2009 – involving 4,100 cities in 87 countries on seven continents.

Last year, 80 million Americans and 318 U.S. cities officially voted for action with their light switch, joining iconic landmarks from around the world that went dark for Earth Hour, including:

* Empire State Building
* Brooklyn Bridge
* Broadway Theater Marquees
* Las Vegas Strip
* United Nations Headquarters
* Golden Gate Bridge
* Seattle’s Space Needle
* Church of Latter-Day Saints Temple
* Gateway Arch in St. Louis
* Great Pyramids of Giza
* Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens
* Christ the Redeemer Statue in Rio de Janeiro
* St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City
* Big Ben and Houses of Parliament in London
* Elysee Palace and Eiffel Tower in Paris

Type: Causes – Fundraiser
Network: Global
Start Time: Monday, January 18, 2010 at 9:00am
End Time: Friday, January 22, 2010 at 5:00pm

DescriptionHello Friends,

How many of you have old cell phones laying around right now? I’d be willing to say that the majority of us have at least one. In my case, I actually have 3.

Recycling our old cell phones is something that we all know we should do, but just haven’t gotten around to it. Well, now there’s a urgent reason to do so!

Phones For Haiti is providing disaster relieve for the victims of the quake by recycling our old cell phones for free. They refurbish and sell them in developing countries. The proceeds generated from our donations will be given directly to the American Red Cross to help fund their efforts in Haiti.

So how do you contribute?

Just visit the following link, print pre-paid shipping label, place cell phone(s) in box and drop in the mail. It’s that simple!

This is an awesome way for us to all give back, regardless of our current financial position. So, what do you guys and girls say? Let’s all join together by shipping our old phones this Monday, January 18th!

To show your commitment, please RSVP to this event and invite all of your friends too!

Help this West Virginia Shelter

Nothing breaks my heart more than injured animals. I came across this article when I was on Twitter and I had to post it on The Green Beagle in hopes that people will help this shelter and donate.

Animals Killed in WV Shelter Fire

More than 50 cats, small dogs and puppies have died in a fire that destroyed one of the Ritchie County Humane Society’s buildings.
Humane society President Kitty Ray says the fire broke out early Wednesday morning in one of two buildings used as shelters. Larger dogs housed in the other building weren’t injured.
Ray says the fire also destroyed pet food, office supplies, equipment and records stored in the building. A cause hasn’t been determined.
Ray says animal rescue groups around the country have donated money and supplies.
Donations can be made through the organization’s Website or mailed to the Ritchie County Humane Society, RR 1 Box 3, Harrisville, WV 26362.
