Urgent Rescues For February

There is never a shortage for poor pets that need to be saved. Please help me find these pooches their new homes. I cannot stand the thought of these little babies being put down for no reason other than space. It isn’t right and they don’t deserve it.  My motto has always been adopt don’t shop! Soo many animals need good homes and there are plenty to go around.  Please help find these great animals a good home and share their info where ever you can.

Philly was abandoned! Poor guy is 6 years old and someone just decided they didn’t need him anymore and now he is probably going to be put down. Look at that face! Please help us save his life so that he doesn’t get put down. He is well behaved and sweet!

Molly is only one year of age, has the most lovely and lively eyes that spark in a light reddish marble cake coat. Molly is very playful. She loves running after the ball that she does not guard but not truly retrieves. She is loving and willing to learn and can be a great family dog. She seems to like other dogs that she meets with a high or low tail. She is very affectionate and is happy to be on the lap for hugs and kisses.

Pebbles  has a wonderful coco color coat that is nice and shiny her weight is perfect for her size.  Pebbles was pretty well taken care of where she lived before.  She is a friendly girl but respect her boundaries.  She loves other people and dogs. Pebbles appears to be  house trained too! She  knows how to sit when asked, and loves treats. Cuddling with a human is one of my favorite things to do, so I was happy to jump up on the park bench with the lady and cuddle with her.

BRECK – A0926627shines like a bright orange flame in her dark blue kennel. She moves a lot like a sparkle. She is so pretty, a mix of a Pitie and a Boxer. A mother she was, recently separated from her puppies. One wonders where those are as Breck and Buddy, her housemate were the only two dogs brought to our Care Center. Breck is on the thin side but her coat is beautiful. She is very hungry and searches my bag for food. She is the typical mom who has lost her babies,her purpose in life. After a while, beautiful Breck comes to sit next to me., then poses her front legs on my lap and showers me with kisses. It is a matter of time for her to regain her figure and her balance. Breck is a lovely girl.

GLENDA – A0927307Glenda is a well mannered and gracious older dog. She has been kept in mint shape by her owner who unfortunately lost his or her home. Glenda is feminine. She is trim in her salt and pepper suit. Her face is delicate and attractive. She seems to wear eyeliner. All together, Glenda is an elegant female. Glenda is a dream on the leash. She is of course house trained. At times and mostly when she sits very close to me, Glenda whimpers very softly. More hugs are in order.She is very needy and affectionate. Glenda was clearly a family dog, a pet who was very much liked by her owners and finding herself in a shelter is a major shock to her. Glenda is very docile, obedient and executes orders readily. She is a perfect and proper dog who wants to please her caretaker.

ELLE – ID#A0926950appears to have been well taken care of, her coat is healthy, her body weight good and she is a social sweet little girl. She might be house trained taking care of things as soon as we were out the door. She’s as cute as can be, sitting for her photo session, waiting for treats that she knew I had in my bag, and wagging her tail waiting to be done so that we could walk some more. Ellie has lots of positive energy so I see her in a family who can take her for long walks, perhaps toss a tennis ball and then invite her to snuggle up on the nearest lap. Ellie is waiting for her new family to walk in, meet her and say “yes, this is my new fur baby”. Ask to meet this black and white delight today.

She did get a green on her medical eval, so that means even though she was in pain she was polite, lady like and used her manners! Lets get her out and give her the vet assistance she needs because even though we don’t know what she’ll need from the vet.

A person visiting the shelter saw this happening and said, ” they are lovely, extremely timid, trembling dogs, both with tails tucked between their legs. Mild-mannered in every way. Both looking up into their master’s eyes for any sign of what was happening to them or what would come next. Shy, loving, fearful, trusting. He said good-bye to them and they were led into the back.

EVA (A0922743)Eva is a wonderful girl who is so well behaved and yet at risk of being put down soon if no one comes forward to foster or adopt her.  She is strikingly pretty with a well groomed coat, she appears to be house trained “going” as soon as we were on the street, she sits on command and takes treats very gently, she posed beautifully for her pictures, went into the play position when we met big dogs in the park, and ignored the small yappy ones. Eva is good on the leash, walking nicely, checking up with me to make sure everything was OK (and it certainly was!). This is a wonderfully affectionate little girl who will be happy spending time with her human no matter what activity might be happening -a long walk, a ball chase or simply curling up together watching TV. Do make a point of meeting Eva, she is ready to meet her forever family now. She is rated ‘green’ which means she will fit into any living situation. Please help her get out before it’s too late.

Let’s do it….I woke him up, picked him up, said a few nice words into his ears, and off we went for a walk…. Frank does not act that old… He trots around the block and when it was time to go back, insisted to stay out a little longer. Frank is a sweet little guy. He seems to have an eye infection but sees well at least with the other eye. He will need medical care upon his discharge from the Care Center. Frank likes to be on the lap and to be caressed. He is a gentle soul who deserves his place in the sun and among humans who will truly care and love him. Frank needs you now. Please start contacting rescues now.

As I have mentioned a zillion times my house is full of pets and they are all rescues. I love them all and they are my life but sometimes rescuing an animal does require you to give them a little extra TLC. My animals are also super spoiled because the BF works from home and is with them every waking moment.
That being said the girls have horrendous separation anxiety. We have to lock our puppy in a crate when we leave because she eats holes in walls and furniture which is not good. Our older dog was abandoned in the first year of her life and was chained to a fence for a long period of time before she was rescued so she gets terribly nervous and scared when we leave and for a multitude of reasons when you haven’t left. We have tried training and different products to help but nothing really has worked.
I have written about Happy Tails Spa a few times and feel like I can trust their brand so I went searching to see what they had to help soothe my pooches. I found their Sleepytime Tonic and was excited to try it. I had tried other products like it before and they never really had an effect but I was determined to help my babies. I tried putting the drops directly in the pooches mouths but they didn’t seem to like that too much so I put a few drops on their Frosty Paws treats or in their water and that worked like a charm. I will say I didn’t notice an immediate change the first few times I used it but after a little while the girls definitely started to exhibit a calmer demeanor when we got home. I started giving our older dog a few drops when it would storm out because she really hates that and I have to say she hid under things much less and seemed less bothered by it over all.
I am extremely happy my pooches are having an easier time when we leave them and even happier our older dog seems more relaxed. I hate to see them sad.

Unfortunately, Max’s former owner must have been in a hurry because he didn’t fill out the form which would tell us important information about Max. From what we can piece together, Max was easy to handle during his exam but didn’t stand for it. That either means he was tired OR being submissive. He’s obviously handsome although a little overweight. We know he’s great on a leash during his walks. We know we have to get him OUT of there before he gets sick or worse. Go see Max at SIACC and find out about him for yourself♥

MARLBORO (A0924474) SCARED OLDER BROTHER  Marlboro was brought in to the shelter with his younger sister Island and younger brother Coney after their owner was arrested. Looking at the state of Marlboro the owner should be more than arrested. Marlboro is seven years old, the oldest of the bunch, is severely emaciated and terribly neglected. Marlboro is so scared and out of sorts he did not do well on his initial exam. Do you blame him? He left one bad situation only to end up in a worse one. Marlboro needs someone who he can trust and let his guard down to. He has not had that yet in his short life. Won’t you be the one that will show Marlboro that all people aren’t bad? Please start contacting rescues now. Because the shelter doesn’t need an excuse to end a life, and with a negative evaluation Marlboro is an easy target.

Lulu has become a volunteer favorite due to her sweet and easygoing ways. The thought of Lulu happily leaving her cage tomorrow morning thinking she’s simply going for a walk is sickening. This sweet girl is terribly scared at the shelter, but she still managed to get great scores on her behavior evaluation. She did especially well with the helper dog & showed no aggression at all. Organic Homemade Kitty Treats

 

 

Over the holidays I usually purchase my friends and families pets safe and organic treats for the holidays but it never really occurred to me to make them myself. I know it is a little more time consuming but with all of the other holiday backing going on why not right? I found this quick and simple cat treat recipe that any cat would love.

Supplies:
cookie sheet
½ cup organic whole wheat flour
½ cup non-fat, organic powdered milk
½ cup cooked and chopped organic chicken
1 tbs. organic vegetable oil
1 organic egg, beaten
¼ cup water
1 tbs. chopped, fresh organic catnip

1. Mix together the powdered milk, flour and catnip in a bowl.
2. Add the egg, organic chicken, vegetable oil and water and mix until dough becomes sticky.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
4. Grease the cookie sheet to make sure the treats don’t stick.
5. Form treats in to any shape or size you like. You can even use cookie cutters if you have ones small enough.
6. Place on cookie sheets to bake for 10 minutes.
7. Take out of oven and flip treats to cook for another 10 minutes so they cook evenly on both sides.
8. Remove treats from the oven and let cool before giving them to your kitty.
