Make Your Old Trays Look New

Collectors Serving Tray

Collectors Serving Tray

I love this idea! I happen to think that serving trays add a touch of class to any environment even if they are just purely decorative. I like even more that you won’t have to go out and buy one you can make your own out of an old serving tray you want to spruce up or if you find an unfinished one you can now make it your way.

Supplies:
Old Serving Tray (or new unfinished tray)
Collectible Cards, Magazine Cut outs or Playing Cards
Eco-Friendly Crafting Glue
Eco-Friendly Spray Adhesive
Clear Gloss EZ paint (an eco-friendly spray paint, if you have clear gloss spray paint at home any will do)
Crafty odds and ends you have been holding on to.

Instructions:
1. If you have an unfinished wood tray make sure it is sanded and smooth before starting to decorate.
2. Find your decorations. Whether you have playing cards, collectible cards (I would kind of like to see one done in Garbage Pail Kids cards lol). Try to plot out your decorating placement and strategy before gluing anything to the tray to make sure it looks right and fits together nicely.
3. Once you have decided on placement you can move on to gluing your items to the tray with the eco-friendly crafting glue (You can use hot glue or anykind of glue you have at home. The point is to use what you already have at home and not buy more.)
4. After everything is glued and has set for 10-15 minutes, spray the entire tray with spray adhesive just to make sure everything is secured to the tray. This also helps if you have glues gems or anything that isn’t completely flat onto the tray.
5. Once you have let the spray adhesive set for another 10 minutes or so you can begin to spray the tray with the clear gloss spray paint. I suggest multiple coats only because you plan on washing this item repeatedly after uses and you want to make sure you can keep the tray looking pretty and lasting as long as possible.

New Look For Old Plates

If you have old plates at home or mismatched sets instead of throwing them out why not spruce them up! I have seen these in a few different places and thought this is an amazing idea if you are a crafter or even if you want to get some new home decor.

Supplies:
Recycled Sticker Paper
Spray Paint
Glue Gun
Craft odds & ends you have from around the house

Instructions:

1. Find the silhouette images you like on line and print them out on the recycled sticker paper.
2. Place the sticker on the plate in the desired area.
3. Spray the plates any color or combination of colors you want.
4. Let the plates dry for 5 to 10 minutes depending on colors and coats

Matt & Nat Laroux Cross Body

Matt & Nat Laroux Clutch

I have been drooling over Matt & Natbags for years! I love their style and design! I refuse to wear or purchase leather or any article of clothing or accessory made from an animal but that being said I also love fashion! I went to college for it!  While most of my friends were wearing Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Chanel and so on I was quite limited to bags that I liked that didn’t look “hippish” but that didn’t look cheap either. It sometimes was a grueling process to find shoes, bags wallets or even sometimes coats. Now with businesses like Matt & Nat those of us who choose not to participate in torturing animals have the opportunity to show the rest of the fashion world you don’t need leather or snake skin to be fashionable!
For my birthday this year some of my fave friends got together and purchased me my first Matt & Nat bag! I am in love! I had been dying to get my own for a while but was trying to be conservative. I can’t get enough of it. I have been wearing it everyday and every time someone asks me about the bag I give them the story of Matt & Nat.

About Matt & Nat:In the summer of 1992, I was challenged by a Mahatma to go vegetarian for 30 days. At the time I had no idea that this choice would have such an impact in my life as well as that of others.
Three years later, I was completing a degree in marketing and corporate law when one of my courses required me to develop a business plan and go out to attain funding from banks. I came up with the idea of MATT & NAT, got a B on the paper and got zero ‘pretend funding’ from 2 banks. Nevertheless, feeling that this would be my life’s calling, I decided to forego the idea of attending law school and start a brand shaped by duality, the idea of creating beautiful things that have a positive impact. The characters in the acronym M&N represent this journey.
Over Fifteen years later, our team is continuously working towards this goal, developing beautiful (we hope) products for people who appreciate a smart, unpretentious, socially conscious brand characterized by minimalist design and utility.

Positive impact, every little bit counts!
As has been the case since our humble beginnings, our line is cruelty-free, using no animal products. Veganism has been proven to be one of the most effective ways to fight global warming.
As an example of the spirit and commitment of MATT & NAT, all linings of our bags and wallets are made of 100% recycled plastic bottles. In fact, on average we recycle 21 water bottles to make the lining of each bag.
In 2011 we introduced cork labeling inside all of our bags, an innovative material in the fashion industry that is sustainable to the environment. Cork extraction is one of the most environmentally friendly harvesting processes in the world.
Every now and then we also donate bags to women’s shelters around Montreal, feed the homeless people of this city a vegetarian meal and throw product out of our office windows to loyal fans.

Simple Food for the Good Life

Simple Food for the Good Life
Simple Food for the Good Life

Its never to late to learn new ways to live your life healthier and greener! There are individuals out there who have been living the sustainable life for decades and the mass is only just catching on. Simple Food for the Good Life shows you it is possible! People have lead the good life for much longer than we realize and it isn’t as impossible as some of us like to pretend it is. Simple Food for the Good Life illustrates how our obsession with over commodities which are so incredibly unnecessary. We could all benefit from buying less stuff which later makes less stuff! Read up and learn more about Simple Food for the Good Life

About Simple Food for the Good Life:
Fifty years before the phrase “simple living” became fashionable, Helen and Scott Nearing were living their celebrated “Good Life” on homesteads first in Vermont, then in Maine. All the way to their ninth decades, the Nearings grew their own food, built their own buildings, and fought an eloquent combat against the silliness of America’s infatuation with consumer goods and refined foods. They also wrote or co-wrote more than thirty books, many of which are now being brought back into print by the Good Life Center and Chelsea Green.
Simple Food for the Good Life is a jovial collection of “quips, quotes, and one-of-a-kind recipes meant to amuse and intrigue all of those who find themselves in the kitchen, willingly or otherwise.” Recipes such as Horse Chow, Scott’s Emulsion, Crusty Carrot Croakers, Raw Beet Borscht, Creamy Blueberry Soup, and Super Salad for a Crowd should improve the mood as well as whet the appetite of any guest.
Here is an antidote for the whole foods enthusiast who is “fed up” with the anxieties and drudgeries of preparing fancy meals with stylish, expensive, hard-to-find ingredients. This celebration of salads, leftovers, raw foods, and homegrown fruits and vegetables takes the straightest imaginable route from their stem or vine to your table.
“The funniest, crankiest, most ambivalent cookbook you’ll ever read,” said Food & Wine magazine. “This is more than a mere cookbook,” said Health Science magazine: “It belongs to the category of classics, destined to be remembered through the ages.”
Among Helen Nearing’s numerous books is Chelsea Green’s Loving and Leaving the Good Life, a memoir of her fifty-year marriage to Scott Nearing and the story of Scott’s deliberate death at the age of one hundred. Helen and Scott Nearing’s final homestead in Harborside, Maine, has been established in perpetuity as an educational progam under the name of The Good Life Center.

We have all sorts of green cleaning products to use and this is just one more. Now you can make your cleaning just that much more green when you use an Eco-Mop made completely from recycled materials. Eco-Mop heads are less expensive than non-recycled mops.
Over the weekend I was trying to find a new mop and couldn’t find anything remotely eco-friendly at my local stores. The one thing I did notice however was that mops and mop heads aren’t cheap. Product Description:

7 Rings Peace Bronze Bracelet

7 Rings of Peace

I have written about From War to Peace before but now that I actually have my hands on some of their items I had to write again.

First of all look at my bracelet! Come one don’t you love it! Besides being so beautiful I have to say my favorite part is the magnetic closure.  I know who cares about closures but while I was trying the bracelet on and I held one end of the closure the other followed quickly and snapped shut.  I cannot tell you how annoyed I get trying to put on my bracelets one handed.  It almost forces you to constantly wear bangles.  I am so in love with the 7 Rings design From War to Peace has that I even have the matching earrings.  I know it looks simple but the detail where the rings intersect adds bonus decoration. It may seem simple but these pieces are so me.

I wore the 7 Rings earrings and bracelet this weekend and got a multitude of complements which was my goal because then I got to give people a heads up on From War to Peace’s mission.  I think how From War to Peace’s  products are made is part of the appeal and if I can get more people out there made aware of what From War to Peace is doing it is better for everyone.

Let me not forget to add another extremely important aspect to how awesome From War to Peace is they are an American business. The peace bronze, designs and products are made right here from the mining process to the making of the jewelry!

Product Info:
Our flagship design and our most popular. In ancient times, 7 circles meant perfection. In our filagree piece, the rings of peace form a 7-pointed star, representing the peaceful unity of all nations and faiths. An original design by Jason Main.
The magnetic clasp is very strong and robust. Easier to put on with one hand than a regular ‘Lobster-Claw’ clasp.
The Bracelet is 7″ round, perfect for most wrists.

About From War to Peace
Founders Paul and Sandee Ogren shared a dream of a world without war. They dreamt of a world where bombs are turned into beauty, hate into love, and war into peace. From War to Peace is their attempt to help make that dream a reality.

The story of From War to Peace is a story of transformation:
We recycle copper from disarmed nuclear missile systems to create Peace Bronze, the most precious metal in our world. We use it to make glorious art and jewelry for those who share our commitment to a world without war.
From War to Peace is a green company. We recycle everything, making the old newly useful. Our silver- and gold-plated pieces are created entirely from recycled metals. Our printed paper is all recycled. All plastics we use are biodegradable. Our Peace Bronze itself is recycled from missile system cabling. Even the server hosting our website uses solar technology to power its computers.
From War to Peace is a uniquely American company. The copper we use was originally mined in Montana, then used in the Midwest as wiring in nuclear missile systems before being disarmed. After recovering the copper, the Peace Bronze is made for us at a California foundry. We use casting foundries in New Mexico & CA for our casting. Local artisans turn it into jewelry and art objects here in the U.S.A.
From War to Peace is a giving company. We donate 20 percent of all FWTP profit to deserving peace and social justice organizations in the U.S.A. and around the world.

Ditto Ecological Hangers

I love clothes! I love my closet but the one thing I don’t love is running out of hangers. I hate when they are mixed with plastic, decorated, wire, or store hangers. I need uniformity!
Hangers are one item, I think, no one really thinks about in terms of green. You think “Hey they are plastic I will recycle them” or wire or which ever ones you may have but in reality does that ever really happen?
I was cleaning out my closet the other day and realized I wanted all new hangers and even more so I wanted  “green” hangers. I assumed some kind of green hanger must exist at this point and if so they are probably way cooler than regular old hangers anyway.
When I found eco-hangers at BuyGreen.com I was completely right! They are way cooler than regular hangers.  I found Ditto Ecological Hangers, which take up less space in my closet than most other hangers and Ditto Ecological Hangers are as awesomely green as can be!
You can write on them, they don’t get tangled together and you can even decorate them if you want, which you know I do!
