 You must know I love body scrubs because I write about exfoliating all of the time! I generally like to make my own but sometimes you don’t have time for a fresh beauty treatment so you must go to the next best thing! If you have to purchase a cosmetic or beauty product make sure you are choosing a responsible one. Remember whatever ingredients are in the product are going in and on your body. I know the words are difficult to sometimes understand on the back of the bottle but that should be the first clue that maybe you should rethink using that product. Organic Homemade Kitty Treats

Over the holidays I usually purchase my friends and families pets safe and organic treats for the holidays but it never really occurred to me to make them myself. I know it is a little more time consuming but with all of the other holiday backing going on why not right? I found this quick and simple cat treat recipe that any cat would love.

Supplies:
cookie sheet
½ cup organic whole wheat flour
½ cup non-fat, organic powdered milk
½ cup cooked and chopped organic chicken
1 tbs. organic vegetable oil
1 organic egg, beaten
¼ cup water
1 tbs. chopped, fresh organic catnip

1. Mix together the powdered milk, flour and catnip in a bowl.
2. Add the egg, organic chicken, vegetable oil and water and mix until dough becomes sticky.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
4. Grease the cookie sheet to make sure the treats don’t stick.
5. Form treats in to any shape or size you like. You can even use cookie cutters if you have ones small enough.
6. Place on cookie sheets to bake for 10 minutes.
7. Take out of oven and flip treats to cook for another 10 minutes so they cook evenly on both sides.
8. Remove treats from the oven and let cool before giving them to your kitty.

Trader Joes Lavender Salt Scrub

I really can’t believe how long it has taken me to try Trader Joe’s Lavender Salt Body Scrub but I finally have and am in love! I used to purchase the same kind of scrub from Bath and Body Works or The Body Shop before their scrubs were $30 for a 6.8ozs of scrub that isn’t as effective as it used to be! I have been looking for a scrub of this caliber for a very long time and finally have found it at Trader Joe’s. I knew good ol’Joe would never let me down at only $6.00 for a big heaping jug bring it on!!
I couldn’t wait to use it. After slopping it on my skin felt amazing. If you are not used to oil based scrubs please be advised that if you use this scrub you should either mix it with shower gel or use shower gel after your scrub so you can get the oil off. I read some other reviews and people complained about the oil but if you are an experienced scrub user as myself you know better. If you have time to sit around in your bathrobe after you use the scrub or even put lotion on right after you will be OK.
I absolutely love this scrub. I have been dying for an actual salt scrub for so long. I do make my own but I wanted a responsible back up and refuse to purchase from Bath and Body or The Body Shop anylonger. There is no reason a body scrub should cost more than $6 if it is mostly natural ingredients!
I say right on Trader Joe’s! You have made me soo happy and will continue using your Lavender Salt Scrub until your recipe changes or price goes up!

Apple Pie Dip

Dip Ingredients:
2 cups peeled, cored, and diced organic apples
1 1/2 teaspoon organic fresh lemon juice
2 1/2 teaspoons organic brown sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons organic apricot preserves
1/4 teaspoon organic cinnamon
2 teaspoons organic raw honey

Chip Ingredients:
5 (6-inch) organic flour tortillas
2 tablespoons organic butter or vegan substitute, melted
1/2 teaspoon organic cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoons organic brown sugar

Directions:
1.Combine all the dip ingredients in a bowl, then cover with foil and bake in oven until soft at 350 or 400 degrees. Check on them repeatedly to make sure the apples don’t get mushy. You can leave the foil off for a few minutes to toast the top.

2. Once the apples are finished cooking you can ether serve them warm or put the apples in the fridge to chill.

3.Brush the tortillas with butter, then cut them into wedges.

4.Arrange the wedges on a greased baking sheet, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, and bake at 350º F until golden brown, about 10 minutes. Let them cool before serving.

You can add Different fruit preserves or some fresh sage or cloves to switch up the taste, even pecans! This is a simple, delicious and healthy alternative to desert dips. When you are already pigged out and over stuffed it is sometimes nice to add something healthy to the mix.

I went to a friends house last weekend who was having a sort of party extravaganza and all that she required was that each attendee bring something for a local shelter called Little Shelter that she rescued her dogs from. She invited her other friends who did Avon, Scentsy, 31 gifts, passion parties, and someone who made amazing cake truffles. She made a ton of food and had drinks galore lol (the best way to get tons of donates is to get and keep everyone tipsy). The event was a hit and there was plenty to donate. It made me think how can I get this to spread to other areas and get people do to this regularly.
Rescues need all of the help they can get and no one wants to see happy healthy animals put down. It is a horrible process that even has me tearing up just writing about it. After seeing the success of this party I think everyone should do it for any event you have. Go to a dollar store if you have to to purchase supplies. You can ask for rescue donations at birthday parties, weddings (I have seen it on Tori & Deans wedding show), holiday parties, or even do what my friend did and invite other hostesses who sell their own merchandise to bring in a larger crowd.
Animal rescuing is something so near and dear to my heart. My first rescue Skye was in such a horrible state when I adopted her and 10 years and 3 additional rescues later she is healthy happy and in the most loving home ever. She is the sweetest dog even after what she had to suffer for the first year 1/2 of her life. Every dog deserves that chance.
